They want over $1600 just to do the wheels!

The lay-up doesn't even make sense. They just slapped a CF skin on the hoops without any consideration to it even looking like it "might" be structural. Very weak in my opinion.

Carbon fiber is the "chrome" of sportbikes.

That is a very expensive price for a cheap way of doing things. .

wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy cf wheels besides that wouldn't this make the wheels heavier and be the oposite of what cf was intended for

a good set of CF wheels, like BMC costs about $3500, if you're lucky to get a good deal.
personally, I'm not a big fan of the imitations. if you gotta do something, do it for good or do something else, do not imitate, it'll always look cheesy!

There is actually a process called hydrographics that you might look into if you want the carbon fiber look. It would be cheaper and lighter than adding layers of carbon. But the downside is the same, anyone who knows anything about CF will know it's fake. I'm not sure they can do wheels due to their complex shape, but they could do flatter surfaces like the airbox cover, fender, air scoops, etc...

A while back there were some carbon wheels for the tubers, $2000 for the front and $2500 for the rear. Right now you could buy a good tuber for less than that.

Just glancing at their site (literally, like maybe 15 seconds) it looks like they're marketing it as a structural reinforcement. But most people will probably do it because it's pretty.

I personally hate CF. If I was that concerned about shaving weight, I'd go to the gym more often. I think it looks tacky... black burlap sack just doesn't do anything for me. If I DO ever wind up with any CF pieces (on my bike or my Mustang), you can bet they get painted.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking those who dig CF stuff. Just not my taste.

LOL there is NOTHING tackier than fake carbon fiber. I can easily cut CF fans slack because it IS a very functional material. But plastic with a printed CF design?

Daaaayum.

i agree fake carbon is bad. thats one of the things i hate about the carbon that is offered for ducatis. alot of ducati places have a weeve to their cf that looks fake. i take it that no one has seen a xb with carbon wheels

Heck, they even have carbon fabric-style patterns on the freaking SEATS now!

CF Buckle tank protectors? Yeah baby, ever since I put that carbon buckle protector, the handling has improved dramatically. Turn-in is much more aggressive and mid-turn stability is much improved with throttle application...

...uhhhh...

no

I always thought it would be cool if someone made a CF rear subframe for the S's. If you could shave enough weight to make it interesting.

I should think the ZTL front wheel is among the lighter wheels fitted as standard equipment anyway. Without spending 2K. Even where it does save...what a couple ounces? Cha ching. Even just a CF fender is bank and I doubt it's that much lighter than stock. Cool maybe, but too rich for my blood.

I think most of what is out there for the Buells is just decorative. If you can shave lbs that's cool but man, even the smallest items are spendy.

"I think it looks tacky..."

That was my thought about Buell's stock plastic parts (black aside.

Different strokes. I didn't buy it to shave weight, I bought it because CF is a different look.

^^^i think he is referring to fake carbon fiber as fake. i thin the plastic that they use for the scoops oul cooler etc, looks kinda cheap so i plan to eventually change all that stuff

like anything else its a matter of taste. personally i think theres a line between just right and to much. i like the right carbon touches or a bike that has full carbon everything. one you cross that line of the right touch then you have to go all out to mzke it right. IMHO
