Well I was at the dealership today buying some parts, so of course I had stop and take a look at the 09's. I noticed on an Ss, that there was high temp RTV around the torca clamp that connects the pipe and headers. I asked a sales guy if they put that on there and he said no, came from the plant like that. I thought that was interesting since I haven't heard any of you 09 owners pointing this out. And since I just put some RTV on my connection to see if the decel pops stop.

Also I noticed a narrow plastic hose running out from under the engine back to the left side swing arm and ending near the foot peg. Im guessing thats a crankcase breather line?

It's been used on Buell's since they were old school...

RTV= Room Temperature Vulcanizing (usually silicone)in a tube.

My 09 Ss has some around the clamp also.

The tube that exits right in front of the swingarm is the tank vent which pukes gas all over the swingarm if you fill the tank over the silver part where the cap latches and leaves funky white stains on the swingarm.

I didn't realise what the name of that stuff was. Been using it on cars forever. I always called it blue gasket gunk.

Well putting RTV around the connection is something KD recommends if you have decel pop. I've heard it does help to a certain degree. Also check and make sure your connection is not leaking. Mine wasent, but I put on some RTV to see if it helps a bit. But I really don't mind the popping, I was just something to do.

Follow up question...is Buell putting the sealant in the joint, meaning on the pipe / under the muffler tube or just on the clamp?

Cruzin,

That'd be the first thing I do to 'cure' decel popping.

It goes on the outside of the header. Just smear a dab all the way around the collector of the header up about 1 inch. Slide on the muffler. Tighten clamp.
