While riding the other day, my speedometer/odometer just quit. The tach still works, fuses are ok and the background lights work. I realize I need to replace a cable. Just thought on a 2001 Buell M2 with just 7000 miles, never imagined it would quit. Just wondering if this happened to anyone else. Thanks.

i dont think you have a cable. i believe you have an electric sending unit, plugged into top of transmission, right near the starter. they get gorped up with metal shavings sometimes. might clean up and work, or just replace it.

It happened to tons of us. The newest part (posted elsewhere here) will fix it once and for all. It is $70 something instead of $50 something, but it fixes it and it stays fixed.

Don't put another of the same part back, more often then not, it will blow again in short order.

Bet your primary chain tensioner is split as well ;)

Here is the part number and an entire knowledge vault thread devoted to this very topic...

And don't sound so smug spyder, the XB9R's have the same problem ;) . It was fixed on the XB9S's. No idea about the XB12's, don't know if anyone has slapped a meter to see if the speedo sensor is getting 12 volts (bad) or 5 volts (good).

If my sensor on my Cyclone goes again, the obvious solution is to go buy a replacement XB9s. At least that will be the story to the wife ;)
