I'm riding a Buell Blast, I bought it for the 70mpg last summer when diesel prices fluttered dangerously close to 5 dollars a gallon. Now that I have been riding for a while I am considering buying a Buell Lightning XB12scg. I would probably get it about mid-summer if everything goes as planned financially. I would like to get some input on anyone has one as far as... How comfortable is it? How far can you go on a full tank? Any annoying habits of the bike? Anything to beware of? As you can tell any input Pros and Cons would be very helpful. Thanks.

I love mine. I'm 5'8" and fit comfortably on the bike and can flat foot at stops easily. From a full tank to when the low gas light comes on I'll get 100-130 miles on a tank. Long rides can be tough on the butt because the seat has less padding. The most I've ridden non-stop on it is about 100 miles and it was approaching painful.

Depending on your height is a big factor here.Ferocity02 says he(or she) is 5'8" which is ideal for that bike.I love mine but I am 5'11" and I am a bit cramped on it.I like the way the bike looks so I will not put a taller seat on it.You know it looks like a mini bike on steroids to me.
I ride very conservative but I can get close to 180 miles on a tank.I have had the bike two years now and I average 52 mpg.

i would go and try an ss or a city x and then get on an scg. i'm also 5'8 but i only weigh about 140lbs. so the scg was a perfect fit, on the down side it holds the least amount of fuel, also not alot of room to ride 2 up but that could be a plus too i guess.....so it's kinda hamburger, cheeseburger you know

Try one out, then try a regular S. You didn't mention if height would be an issue for you or not. Both bikes are similar, with the difference being the suspension and the seat. The seats can be swapped no problem, but the suspension is more involved. Don't let fuel economy scare you, my 06 Uly and 06 SS both get in the 50's most tanks, and once I got 74mpg : )

I rarely mention my height mostly because its nothing to brag about. At 5' 3" the XB12scg is about the tallest big boy bike I will fit on with my feet comfortably on the ground. I've ridden a few other sportbikes but I want TORQUE! and I hear this bike is the way to go if you want torque and good handling in the twisties.

OK now that you finally said it, I can counter how I am too short for the Uly, but managed it just fine. You are only stopped 1% of the time, and even then I was hanging off the side of the bike. Worth it to be honest : )

I got a 09 scg in sept. I love the bike, when it runs good, don't let my last statement discourage you it's the most fun on two wheels. I average 37 mpg so far but I only have 1500mi and they had to replace my ecm because it was faulty and the bike was running rich, so my mpg might improve next summer plus I'm not the most conservative rider out there. My only problem with the cg is that I'm around 215 lbs so landing wheelies and hard braking on bumpy road are making the fork bottom. I did switch my seat for the regular S seat for more comfort but even with the cg seat I could ride around 110ish mi non stop and there was no problem other then my legs starting to feel it.

Putting the scg seat on a regular S tail possibly? would that change the height much? I really like the look of that seat. With the butt groove it looks alittle higher in the rear. You could get a "Gunfighter" seat of ebay for about 150.00

I have a city X tail coming for my R and I am debating my on a seat. I like the look of the scg...but I'm 6'1 (shorter torso, longer legs)

Hi Roys, I'm a 5'3" girl and I have an Scg and love it. I'm on the balls of my feet when stopped. The seat is definitely hard so I had mine reupholstered with more but softer foam. It did set me up a little bit higher but it was well worth it.

My hubby and I have ridden over 300 miles in a day and no problems with the butt. I have gotten anywhere from 54-70 mpg (with some tweaking of the ECMspy). I've had absolutely no problems with it and have over 16k miles on it.

It's great on the track too. Go demo a few. I demo'd the CR with the higher handle bars and lower foot pegs and no problem.

Happy hunting for your new Buell

Just do it, you wont be disappointed.

I've an 06 Scg with the Select seat. I'm 5'7" and the height is perfect. The bike is a bit short on wheelbase just as the basic S is, so for me it is a bit cramped in length. But I love this bike. 125 miles to the tank. I've got the Buell Race kit though and I'm always grabbing a handful of that throttle so better MPGs can be had. I have just 2 complaints about the bike, the stock headlights and mirrors suck, and the limited suspension travel which comes with the Scg. But it's my choice.

Roy, I got a XB9R with the SCG/SL low kit (forks, shock, kickstand). I'm 5'4-5'5 and stand on the balls of my feet when stopped. You get used to it. I still leave the kickstand down when I mount up.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm pretty confident that this is the bike I will be getting. Just one other thing how hard are these bikes to get a hold of? Is it something dealers keep in stock or will I be searching for months? Just so I can prepare and start searching ahead of time.

Quite easy to get, assuming you got the right dealer. Also check with the board sponsors, you could work out something like a fly and ride. I honestly do not know who to go too in Texas.

Assuming you want to go used, keep an eye on the classifieds here, and check your local craigslist and ebay.
