this may be a stupid question, but has anyone ever tried lightening the flywheel on an xb? i would think if it worked it would give better acceleration and it would rev faster. is it even possible? and would it make the bike vibrate alot more?

There are lightened flywheels available for both the xb9 & 12 motors. * 9 lbs under stock weight and I expect that they do help the bike rev up a lot faster.

* corrected to 3 lbs under stock

Just a thought,
Won't lighter flywheels equal loss of low end torque, at least at lower rpms (off idle)?
Quicker rpm with a limited redline would only be useful in a very limited application it seems to me.

I don't know if it equates to a loss of torque or if the motor just zips through it faster...

who makes them? any idea how much they cost?
would there be any disadvantages? does the heavy flywheel make it idle smoother or vibrate less or anything like that?

* $980, and I think that it would make the engine a little rougher but maybe it could be reduced through balancing.

I'd point you to the website where you can get them but I'm really not clear on what is allowed in the forum regarding links to products other than the sponsor's.

* corrected to $930

I have to correct myself, the lightened wheels are $930, and only save 3 lbs.

That's what I get for relying on my memory on New Years Eve. :)

What has my curiousity though is whether custom strokes are available in that price range. Aaron was suggesting that a set of custom wheels with around 3.6" stroke would be ideal with a 1200 kit. (1346cc if I remember that much correctly)

Looks like somebody beat me to it. :)

I think most people were already aware of the site, they probably just hadn't checked for updates in awhile.
