I bet this is to get more $$$$ from all the folks who go to Laconia Bike Week. I've been going to Laconia BW for almost 20 years and it sucks balls now. They have taken EVERYTHING away and, unfortunately, it all about $$$$ now. I go on Tuesday and leave on Sunday but will only go down to Weirs Beach once. Weirs Beach is where most of the action, or lack there of, is. I mostly go to relax and ride/hang out with my best friend. | ||

Can someone explain to me why a motorcycle has to have a tachometer? What legal reason necessitates this? Are there laws in NH requiring similar requirements for cars? Is this a sound or pollution issue? I'm at a loss here. | ||

Tach requirement probably has to do with the noise ordinance they are proposing. i.e. certain decibel at a certain RPM range (Message edited by krassh on January 10, 2009) (Message edited by krassh on January 10, 2009) | ||

Honestly I could care less about the helmet law. I think we are all capable of choosing our own safety. if you think a helmet or seatbelt for that matter is not for you then so be it. I will always wear both but I think it should be a choice. All this stuff with exhaust and Decibel lowering I think is crap. And adding a tach to older bike is just obnoxious. In this extremely poor economy, this is NH solution. why not put a god damn deposit on bottle and can, I bet the state could make a ton of money with that. I moved from mass and expected to get away from the political bull, but apparently it followed me here | ||

The real-life stats support helmet and seatbelt laws. Here in Florida, head injuries increased 90% after the repeal of the helmet law. That means a huge increase in the number of brain injury patients being supported by the tax payer. Additionally, do some research on the number of car occupants who are injured or killed after being struck by an un-belted passenger in the same car- not to mention what happens when passengers are ejected. I am Libertarian, so I'm all for personal responsibility- but when others' actions (failing to use safety equipment) has a direct effect on my safety and/or pocketbook, especially considering driving/riding is a priveledge-not a right, I have to side with lawmakers when it comes to helmets and seatbelts. Heck, I'd even support laws requiring proper safety equipment use for motorcyclists in regards to boots, gloves, padded pants and jackets in addition to helmets. Call it the ATGATT law. | ||

pretty sure that federal law (EPA) forbids using a pipe without the epa stamp on it. that means that almost every aftermarket pipe is illegal. here in denver, when they announced that they would pull over bikes with aftermarket pipes, they were just going to enforce federal law (mostly in the name of noise). our concern was that the police did not need a reason to pull you over, just the suspicion of having an illegal pipe. and it's a hefty fine. | ||

Easy Money,(dont all bikers have extra disposable income) Why not worry about real issues relating to motorcycle safety. How about a licensing system,Tiered like Europe. That may keep kids who aren't ready,off superbikes,also a mandatory MSF rider training program. Just my .02 | ||

This is just stupid. I live in NH and this is the first I have heard of it. I will definitely be writing an email or something to the State House or the Legislator from my town. I personally don't think it will fly but. Just to make sure. |
