I was a member of this bord when I had my 2001 Cyclone. I am currently wondering what it is like to live with an XB12R as an only bike, uses ranging from touring duty to track days? Are there any reliability issues with running these on the track? What kind of range on a tank of fuel, comfort, etc. thanks for any info you can supply.

If you previously had a Cyclone, I think you'd be happier with the XB12Ss Lightning Long. Although I liked the Firebolt when it came out, it was just too damned TINY and wasn't nearly as versatile as the 1999 and up M2 Cyclone. In my opinion, ergonomically that bike was the most perfect model Buell ever made, too bad the quality control on those models weren't nearly where they are now. My Cyclone spent nearly as much time in the shop as it did on the road.

I traded in my Cyclone for a Lightning Long in the Fall of 2005 and never regretted it. As comfortable as my Cyclone with nearly as much range, but more power, less weight and better handling.

It took the Rotax engine of the 1125R to tempt me into trading in the Lightning Long and so far I'm LOVING this bike. A little more "committed" riding position, but nothing like the Euro or Asian superbikes. Comfortable enough for long rides and with a decent range. Not as cramped as the Firebolt either.

You're probably looking at 110-120 before the reserve light comes on.

No real reliability issues. Should be easier than your Cyclone for sure.

Many folks "ride what you brought" with regard to track days. Unless you are absolutely abusing your bike on the track, I don't see any reason you couldn't do it all.

Another option may be a Ulysses if you are looking at touring duty. I have toured, used it for sport riding, and have done track days with it.

I have an XB12R (07).

Your wrists/hands will take a pounding if you are over six feet tall and want to tour a lot.

I have found the XB12S footpegs are a great addition as well as they are 1 inch lower.

I sat on a xb12r over the weekend and it was not comfortable for me. The pegs were far too high. I was with a friend, who also sat on the bike, and he said that the pegs were too high for him as well. Hes 5'8'' and I'm 6'3''.

When I bought mine and took it on 100 mile ride I thought holy... after getting use to it the bike got comfy. Now, I take 500 mile Ride's on her. I haven't change anything about her. I'm 5'11 180lbs. When I Ride the twisties, I never have discomfort.

Track day, now your talking! This bike is a blast on the track. I've ridden a zx600 and xb12r on track and by far I perfer the XB.

Fuel range. New I was filling her up around 100-120 mile. Now, right around the 150 mark. I've pushed to 170, with 20 miles of res. light on. I also have 30,000(s)miles on her.Hope this helps..

Thanks for all the info, keep coming.
So far I have been riding a GSXR1100 at the track and had a V-Rod last year. Thought the XB would be a good comprimise between the two. More for track/sport touring.

I like my 12r, at first the hand and wrist thing were getting to me. But after you muscles build to the pressure it's no longer a problem, and I am 44. little old man.

I'm 57, 6'0". 178lbs, ride a 12R. Replaced the rear sets to adjust position and it is now comfortable riding position on the legs and feet, I rolled the front bar controls forward and it took the stress off my wrists, now the Firebolt is a comfortable ride for a couple hundred miles or so.

I use the 12R on track days and street riding, this old Harley Sportster guy loves the ride, it is the bike I was always looking for, been riding since 1965, Buell is KILLER!
