so i browsed through my manual today and i couldnt find the section i was looking for. I have recently bought a new header and gonna put it on when it warms up (-6 right now ) anyway. i was looking at at the amount of space to get at the rear flange and i'm not sure exactly how to attack it. Not to mention the 02 censor. Any tips would be great. thanks guys.

i just took mine off, like monday.

you can get the stockers off w/o rotating the engine, but might have some problems putting an after-market header back on, for example the micorn. a universal joint with a not-deep socket does the trick on the rear flange. pull out the shock and fan, take a 7/8 box-end to the O2 Sensor. it is right-handed threads, don't let the notches convince you otherwise

do your self a favor and hose down the stud-nuts with some PB-blaster a day before you are gonna take 'em off.
i can PM you later the how-to on getting 'em off w/o swinging the motor down

I am replacing it with a stock header. I just picked up a used one that is powdercoated chrome. I was thinking that i was going to have to lower the motor but if i dont have to thats a plus. Nillaice if you could pm that rundown that would be sweet. i have another question now though. why would you have to rotate the engine when replacing with a new stock header? thanks again guys

You don't have to, it's just something the factory manual recommends.

i too would say go by the manual and rotate the motor just to get to know your bike. it's pretty cool to see how things were designed on the xb. my total time the first rotation and header removal was about 1/2 hour and well worth the education!

excuse me there, but why do I keep hearing the phrase 'rotating my motor' in some sort of fashion...? How? Why? What for?

Ochoa...this is right off you profile:

Why I do/don't ride a Buell: Sweet Looks, logical & functional engineering

pick up a service manual(if ya don't have one yet) and crack into that bike whenever you get a chance, and learn how truly logical and functional they really are.

ya don't got a service manual? it really is a good investment.

"rotating" or "swinging" the motor refers to lowering the motor without fully detaching it from the frame, just pivoting it on the rear mount.
that outta stave off your curiosity 'til you get one

thanks for the picks,

I read the 'how to',
is the rear tie-bar somewhat holding the engine to the the rear isolator.... wondering why you loosen it and not remove it...?

I don't think you need to loosen or remove it. The others you do but I think the rear can stay attached.

That said... I wouldn't want to accidentally break either of the mounts for it so I'd probably just take it off.
