Is there a preferred method of mounting a magnetic tank bag to an XB? I have a whole bunch of hard disk drives at work from computers. The have very powerful magnets in them that only work in one direction... No magnetism at all on one side. I was thinking of finding a way to attach these to the inside of the airbox cover. Any suggestions?

Not sure if there is enough clearance between the inner and outer covers. I am having my tank bag modified with the plastic male/female clips and j-hooks.

Maybe I'll do it that way... It would be lighter as well.

I've got the factory tank bag on mine. It fastens well and removes and refits quickly and easily.
It expands to stuff extra gear in, came with a storm cover
And hey guess what no magnets needed
See it here

Well, I would have loved to get one of those, but a really good friend of mine both volunteered me to be navigator AND bought a tank bag for me so I kind of have to use this one... I wouldn't want him to feel like he waisted his HARD earned money...

Any ideas on what to use to attach the magnets to the inside of the airbox cover? I peeked in there with a flashlight last night and it looks like there is room if I take magnets from newer hard drives (They look to be a little thinner than a 1/4" ) and the way the flaps that have the magnets in them rest on the tank allows me to attach the HDD magnets to places that are flat enough.

Well, I did a bit of research and found 3M's "Scotch-Weld". The problem is that it seems I need >$300 worth of the stuff. I bet the magnets would NEVER come off though...

I know from working in a bodyshop that Duramix should work very well

I'll talk to somebody at the local body shop. Thanks. You think it'll hold up to all the vibration?

J/B Weld plastic epoxy should also do the trick, just rough up the inside of the cover. I have used to to repair fairings on bikes with great success. Ment to mention it earlier.

Won't J/B weld get soft when it gets wet?

The plastic epoxy doesn't. Its basically a liquid plastic weld.

Gotcha, That's what I'll use. I should be able to mold it into the magnets well enough to make a good hold.
