I'm considering buying an xb12scg. Just wanted to hear from some owners as to how comfy they are for short or long trips. Also, is the stock seat good? I pretty much have no butt so bike seats put the whuppin on me. ( currently riding a Ninja). Any tips or general opinions on the bike would be greatly appreciated. I mostly do weekend trips but am looking at logging some longer ones this summer. Parents ride Hogs and wife rides a V-star

First of all welcome to the addiction(if you buy one). I currently ride an 08 12scg daily. The seat is fine for about an hour. then you need to stretch. I love the bike but does get annoying with any speed bumps or dips. It scrapes a bit. I assure you, unless you get one with bad luck you will love it far more then that booger you ride now. It is not the most comfy bike but you will get more enjoyment out of being on one then you can imagine. Get a BMW if you want comfort. IMO for the style, sound, all around feel you can not beat it. I went Scg because i think the body curves are better then other styles. also the shorter wheel base and height make it handle better. Some say the shorter ride height does not help but a Lower center of gravity and shorter wheel base do make for a better cornering machine.

No joke any bueller will tell you. riding these bikes just make you feel different then the average joe on a Jap bike. You get second looks from others all the time. Some guys scour at you but it is jealousy. 90% of people that see it are just amazed. I have had Duc,BMW,jap guys come look at my bike while no one is looking at theirs.

Thanks for the info Rip. I'm sold on the looks and sound. i'm sure there are aftermarket seats that provide a little more cushion

I think the seat is better for more than an hour, but that's me. You can always get the select seat. It raises you an inch (Ithink) and is more comfy. I ride for 2 hours and get off. But that's from a bum knee not the rear side. I do get more looks than my friends $25K H.D. But in reality it's not made to be a long range cruiser. But When you get off the freeway and onto the twisties-so worth it!!

Well, I have an Ss (long wheelbase) and my wife has an Scg. Her's looks like a mini me next to mine. I'm 5'10" 185 and I overwhelm her shock and suspension travel. Her bike is fun around the block, but the seat is too hard for me and the bike is just too compact for me. I'm much more comfortable and confident on my Ss. With the suspension setup right, my Ss is almost as flickable.

Htekwo: im 5'8" 200 and the suspension is fine. I did adjust the settings for my weight though.
Minipoppa: First thing you should do when you get it is set it up like the book says for your weight. Compression, Dampening, and rebound all need to be set up for a proper ride rather comfort or twisties. I am sure stock seat will be fine with a soft suspension setting mine is hard for my weight and the corners.

I have an 07 Scg and the stock seat was pretty hard. I took it to a guy and had it reupholstered with more but softer foam. I can ride hours without any problems. It cost about $75. It was well worth it. It did raise me a little but I've adjusted to that.

Check out the Buell accessory catalog. There are a lot of seat options for an S tail. Some people switch to an R tail, which would give you a couple more seating options.

Personally I value seat comfort a lot more than seat height. Who cares if both feet don't touch the ground? Your feet only leave the pegs for 0.001% of the time you're on the bike anyway.

Comfort level is going to depend entirely on your body size, length, and shape. Smaller framed people love the SCG. Me, I feel like I'm *wearing* an SCG (I'm 6'4"). I can, literally, only ride one if I'm sitting on the passenger pillion.

Test ride first. Have the suspension dialed in for your bodyweight before you ride (it's in the owners manual, and takes about three minutes).

If you find you like the overall bike, but something feels cramped - all the XBs are basically the same, with minor tweaks in dimensions. S and Scg share the same wheelbase, cg is just lower. Ss is a longer wheelbase. R has the S/Scg wheelbase, with a more agressive rider position. X/XT are longer wheelbase, and much taller. Powertrains are basically the same throughout the air-cooled line (the 9 and 12 are, obviously, different from each other, but a 12 is a 12 is a 12). Bars interchange, but may require a cable swap for your controls. Footpegs interchange. Seats are numerous, either through Buell accessories, Corbin, or many other sources.

Welcome to the group - whatever you end up with, I'm sure you're going to be amazed. Constantly. The Ninja is a good bike, but pretty focused. The XB line is just all-around good : ) Just remember - you will have TONS of bottom-end torque. Don't let the back tire pass the front tire if you can help it, lol.

If you buy it from a dealer, I would think they would set the suspension for you. Just ask in the negotiating proces.

I have a 09 xb12scg that I purchased on 11/14/2008 and I already have 1,000 miles on it. I am 5'11" 230 and it fits and feels fine. The seat was hard at first but it seems to have softened a little, or I just got use to it. Like everyone said you must have the suspension adjusted for your weight, but you can play with the settings to get the ride quality you like the best.

I guess it's my ability to ride the two bikes back to back that make the differences so apparent. As someone said, I feel like I'm wearing the Scg and I'm not even 6'! If it works for you, go for it. They are all really nice bikes.

Most will when you buy, yes. I meant, set it before you *test ride*. I do it every time I can...but I feel like I'm the minority.

Love mine! Rode it 8hrs straight going to BuellToberFest this year in Suches. It was a great ride. The only breaks we took were for food and fuel!

The only time it sucks is when my wife wants to ride with me... the two of us are just too much for meat for the short seat.

But to echo what every other Scg owner has said, it is sexy on the side stand!

Minipoppa, I have a 09 Scg, I love it but what I really wanted was the S(which is the normal height but they don't make it anymore). I'm 5'10" 215 and yes I would love to have the S suspension(probably will next summer) because even if I did set it for my weight it still bottom when landing even the smallest wheelie if I miss my landing and on hard breaking if the road is bumpy. Other then that the bike is the most fun I ever had on 2 wheels, my previous street bikes were 96 yzf750, 97 gsxr750 and a drz400sm. As for the seat I went to the S seat which give a bit more room for the legs and is IMO more comfy. With the S seat I can do 2 1/2 hour without needing to stretch but longer and I feel a bit cramped, not a big problem since I need gas after that amount of time anyway.
