So I know there have been some changes made to the 08 firebolts but I dont know anything about the differences in the front forks if any on the 12R's? I am assuming there are differences because they show different part numbers. Anyone have any insight? Reasoning behind this is I just scored a smashed 08 firebolt and it needs a front end and I can get a set of forks off an 04 12R cheap (so I am wondering if I can make them work for the price).... You can use them if you use the 04 top and bottom triple clamps. The 04's are smaller. (Message edited by bads1 on December 24, 2008) | ||

Thanks Dana! Am I correct in assuming they went from 41mm to 43mm? If thats the case has anyone noticed a drastic improvement in handling due to this? | ||

I can't speak from experience. But from a mechanical stand point...The larger diameter cylinder should have better response. (Message edited by h2owerker on December 24, 2008) | ||

I believe the forks on all XB bikes have been 43mm starting in '04, with the exception of the Uly, which went to a 47mm fork last year. This is why the Pro-Series fork springs are not compatible with the 2003 XB, only '04 and newer. | ||

Nope 05 and newer... if so my forks would have been done. Now if it was a 04 low or better known as a SCJ. Then the tubes were larger. | ||

03-04 are 41mm 05 & up are 43mm Scg models are 41mm same as the 03-04 models. Lower triple is different between the 41 & 43 forks. Top triple is same for both. | ||

Was that the white one on ebay? If its the same bike I'm thinking about? You Might want to send the frame out make sure its straight... Some recently here did that was pretty happy with the results.. | ||

Thanks everyone for the help. Gentleman jon is right, this is why the badweb kicks ass. This forum is a wealth of knowledge! Teddagreek- yeah I picked up the white one on ebay, the divorce is finished and I needed a Christmas present for myself! With as hard as it looks like that bike was hit I am sure there is some frame damage. Its always so hard to tell just looking at the crappy photos but all in all I think I got a decent deal if I can only find cheap parts lol. It is going to get a complete tear down and rebuild. Are there any shops that you would recommend for the frame? | ||
