Hi guys:

I hope you guys can help me out.

I recently sat on a '08 City X, and the seat to peg is too tight for me (I have long legs).

I understand that earlier models had a different ("skyline") seat that is higher. Does anyone know how much higher the old seats were?

I also find the 12 Lightenings too tight, but the Uly and 12XT are very comfy. I just really don't want a bike with a liter+ engine.

Other bikes that fit me well: V Strom (too ugly), Versys (quite nice, but not as much character as a Buell), and CB750 (*barely*).

Seat to ground is not an issue -- I can flat foot most things, but seat to peg is a struggle for me. I'm 6', with 34 inseam and dodgy knees.

Buell listed the CityX with its original tall seat with a seat height of 31.4", the current seat lists at 30.1" for comparison.

For more leg room I believe you can use the Uly peg assemblies, albeit at some loss to ground clearance.

According to the 05 booklet, standard S has a 30.1" seat height. City X with Skyline seat has a 30.6" height.


Keep in mind that that "liter" engine is comparable power wise to a 600 IL4 engine.

The 12 doesn't have a huge amount of extra power compared to the 9. It's mostly felt in the power delivery. More power down low on the 12.

The 9 is a lot smoother at low throttle though.

Since you say the Uly felt comfty to sit on, I would try to get a test ride on one before pulling the trigger on the City X. I think you owe it to yourself to test ride a Uly and see how it feels.

I'm not trying to say a 12 is better than a 9 because that is way too subjective.
I wouldn't mind having a 9SX (cityx) myself.

I just want you to get the most comfortable, most ridable bike that you can : )

sky line seat, uly pegs.... and blast bars. It will change your rider triangle dramatically on that bike, you wont be so leaned over with your back angle. You may find it also shifts your pelvis so that you arent so scrunched up on the pegs.
The Blast bars bolt right on, you will have to redirect the cables though.

Zanon, I notice on your profile you're in the City.

I recommend NOT going to Dudley Perkins. At least for service.

About 30 miles north in Novato, Marin county is Golden Gate HD/Buell. They are very Buell friendly there.

A little closer to you is their main shop in Corte Madera but they sway toward the chrome bombers. All the guys with a good knowledge of Buell went to the Novato shop.

It's worth checking out.

If you like the lightning try a 12ss. I'm 6'4" and it's quite comfy. I also tried the 12scg and cityX and didn't seem very comfortable to me.}

I picked up my 06 CityX because it was the only lighting, other then the Uly that I felt I have leg room on. I recently did a 2600 miles journey to the the MotoGP race and back. I was doing 600 plus miles days. I would be lieing if I said I was not uncomfortable by the end of the day, but I think I held up better then some guys on full touring bikes

I'm 6'2" with 34" inch inseam, and there is enough room for me to be comfortable on an 05 9sx (the tallest seat).

Cityslicker... the uly pegs are the same as the 9sx pegs (at least from 05), right? Its the uly footpeg plates that have to swap over to get the extra room, no?

How hard are they to swap? I'd love to have the Uly plates for 95% of the year, but swap the 9sx plates back over for the occasional track day.

With the stock 9sx pegs, I can (and did) touch a knee on the track easier then I touched a peg. So that kind of corner clearance seems way beyond overkill for street riding. Sure, with bad form I could touch a peg easy enough... but with good form, there is more then enough clearance for knee dragging (which I would never do on the street until they get corner workers and air fences).

NIK: Uly pegs on a CityX? I did not know that was possible. Do they bolt right on or do you need to fish out the dremel?

Also, I'm guessing if you swap the pegs, you will also need to adjust the gear and brake levers a little. I'm guessing this is no big deal.

Cityxslicker: You *are* the authority on the CityX! By Blast Bars, I am guessing you mean the bars on the buell blast?

Metalstorm: Thanks for your advice. I'm bummed to hear that Dudley Perkins is not good for Buell maintenance, as their store is lovely, and they've been in the business for almost 100 years (!)

Big_b: I sat on the 12ss, and it's a bit better, but you're now moving away from that buell wheelbase. Not that reviews are worth much, but it seemed like the 12ss had handling compromises that lessen the uniqueness of buell. I was also surprised at how seat-to-peg on the TT was no better. The 12scg would not be any better -- you're going in the wrong direction!

It's not just the pegs, you have to swap the whole rearset/plate assembly things, and all the stuff associated with them (rear mc, brakeline, shifter, etc...) I saw it done on a lightning, but don't have any firsthand knowledge.

They offset the tree's on the 12ss in 08? That made a big difference from what I heard..

you can put uly pegs on a city with no modification...same drop, same mount. wider foot area. works wonders if your on the balls of your feet all day, no pressure point at all.

And you can put a TT seat on an Ss. Well, I put an Ss seat on my TT. The TT seat is higher and more fun to move around on just not as good for long rides so I swap around.

That would mean you need to try out a TT or an Ss......

The Uly extensions/pegs on an Ss did it for me. I love how you can throw so many different combinations together using stock parts.

Yes the bars are from a Buell Blast, they bolt right up, you will have to remove your windscreen/insturment cluster to relocate the brake line. I will post a pic up when I get to work. (they never load from home.)

The Uly pegs are 1 inch lower than the lightning pegs and a bit wider too. I put a set on when I had a left hand drop.
You could go lower by adding the Uly foot supports, but then you would be relocating the rear brake mc and maybe needing to lengthen your shift lever by grabbing the ULY parts.

I am hoping to have some SNOW pics from work tomorrow too.

Are you positive on that? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I was hoping that was the case, and went to my local dealership and looked at them side by side, and it looked like the same as the lightning drop. Maybe it varied by year or something... or I was just wrong (not the first time).

Can you get a specific part number? Or year model bike?

If it is the case, I'll go order a set ASAP.

It did vary by year, I cant remember if it changed in 06 for 07 or if it was 06 for 06... I will get part numbers tomorrow at work.
