I know that a squid is generally an inexperienced rider on an overpowered machine for all the wrong reasons. However, I was wondering if it is an acronym or something. Where did the term come from?

Anyway, I thought this would definitely make an interesting thread, so let the rants rip!

i always thought squids ment you didnt wear a helmet or any gear. Which means your skin is open to road rash, and will be squid like when you fall.

Squids isnt related to the gear they wear, although more often than not you will see them wearing a top of the line helmet & a tank top.

Its more about an attitude or a way of riding. Constant wheelies, burnouts, cutting traffic off, etc.

LOL......

Squid.......

Its as follows:

A total novice twat who is ALWAYS trying to stunt but cant.
He's the the guy that cant do a stoppie but will always try.....then fall off at the lights.

Hes the tosser who cuts in and out of traffic always only looking in the mirrors to see if his mates are impressed only to run into a truck because he was to busy trying to look for the thumbs up.

The complete muppet who is generally a loser monkey spanking pre-op tranny on a bike which other biker would rather not ride with.

AKA.......erm........ a few people I have known in the past.

Taxonomy:
Via Architeuthis (The Great Street Squid)
Habitats:

Local bike shops, street corners, backroads (With no curves)
Coloring:
Bright, loud, obnoxious. Commonly the male of the species has multiple anodized bike parts that match the coloration of the rest of the bike. Colors may vary, but are generally offensive to the eye.
Locomotion:
Most often seen on a large bore bike with tires in poor condition. (In the center, the sides are most often unused.) Can be seen quickly accelerating in a straight line. This species seems to have great trouble with negotiating turns. Current theory seems to lean towards the possibility that the cognitive time/space abilities are not fully developed. Either that or a lack-o-skill. Tests are being done to fully explore the divergent theories.
Growth & Reproduction:
The growth of the male of the species seems to be arrested around the 12th year of life. This can be seen quite clearly when observing the critter in it's favorite habitat....a motorcycle speed shop. The obvious posturing and crowing are for the purposes of determining relative ranking within the pack. (Silimar to a wolf pack...only wolves don't squeak.)
Reproduction:
let's hope not.
Adaptations:
Custom paintjobs on the vehicle of choice and helmet.
Race takeoff tires
The standard 'No Fear' decals to make said vehicle go faster. (Good for 10+mph)
T-shirt & Shorts
Short lifespan
Feeding:
Fast food
High Octane gas

Another one around here was that after they dumped at umpteen miles an hour, wearing only that muscle shirt and power lifter pants (or whatever was in style at the time) they would kind of look like a squid.. After all, following the planet burn they're getting, there will be all this squiggly mush under their head (which is almost always encased in a top of the line helmet)After all, there's never that much of them left.

But I like Glitchs' break down of the (sub)species.

Later..

Here is a video of a Squid in action with some non-Squids as witnesses. Before clicking the link ie should be noted that the link is connected to an 'adult site' that will have some adult oriented advertising on the same page that the video will play on. If 'adult' content is something you'd rather not see then please avoid clicking this link:

You wanna be a squid? I guess nobody has posted shots from the Fox TV special "When Squids go bad"... Most of these guys worked up their skills by crashing repeatedly. No thanks. Wheelies and stoppies don't impress me anyway.

Yo Rocket..

So ya wanna be a squid.. Not a problem, but do it right..

First - Buy a SuperBike.. Then hop it up, make it as fast as inhumanly possible (this should be a joy for you, going faster!)
Second - Buy the correct clothing: Find the most expensive repli-racer helmet you can and purchase it. Don't worry, it doesn't have to fit right, just look good. Now, get some good sandals, preferably open toed (keeps the air flow good and avoids that whole dirty sock thing). Next, purchase a pair of shorts that hang half off your butt (if shorts aren't available, get some 'muscle' pants nothing thick or restricting now) if it's cold, you should wear a tanker style Tee shirt. When warm, nothing up top should obscure your bod while you ride (gotta impress the ladies right?)And please don't add anything like gloves to your ensemble, gloves and such are for wimps and others.. not real squids. Now, put on all your new 'cool' gear and open that throttle as much as humanly possible. Remember to do this primarily on traffic laden roads, you want everyone to see how cool you are, if you have no one to impress the effect is truly lost.

See, being a squid has nothing to do with 'stunting'. Except for the fact that some movies and vids that are out there have made it all 'really cool' to do such things. Being a squid has everything to do with a lack of preparedness, making sure your bike is way too much for you to handle and of course, riding with as little care and actual skill as possible.

I know some of you will disagree with me. But being able to wheelie, or stoppie or crap like that isn't the true measure of a squid, the true measure is how high he can drive your insurance, and how fast he can help generate anti- motorcycling laws while at the same time, attempting to take his own life and with any luck some hapless bystander as well.
