There are no old farts who ride Buells. Anybody who can ride a Buell can not be an old fart. When you buy a Kawasaki, then you can be an old fart. Don't hang and read. Hang, read, and WRITE. Welcome aboard! ck

Been riding for over 30 years, since I was 16. This site is what convinced me to buy my 1st Buell. Passionate owners. Now I own 2 Buells. Don’t hang around here unless you want to spend $$ to upgrade your ride. I bought a new XB and the wife is giving me crap for spending more $$ on performance parts. “But you have a brand new motorcycle.” I am just about done with my modifications until Buell comes out with the new version.

I am around a computer only one day out of three.
That makes for much catching up reading. I am a little nuts about riding. Ok, way nuts. I do not own a car. The wife has a pickup but it sits under a tree rarely used. She rides a bmw f650gs.
The Buell is WAY too much fun for me to stop ridding for modifications. Maybe next year.

OK... I will draw the line in the sand... since it is almost 2004.

If you were born after 1954 you are not an old fart.

If you were born in 1954 or before you are an old fart... half a century old.

I AM AN OLD FART... I started riding in 1969... and I own a 2003 XB9S with a factory race kit.

BUT PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ME A GROWN UP... that is an entirely different subject... I tried the grown up gig... IT ALMOST KILLED ME!

Umm,what is a GROWN UP? Missed old fart by two years. I got here in 1956. Been riding motorized two wheelers since I was a 12yo. Life be grand.
Ride often-be safe.

Hey DAS! Easy on that old fart s%!t! I was born in '49 and have been riding since I was 12. Jesus, that's 42 years. AMA life member too. Built the first one myself, then a whizzer, then a Honda S65 dream and now some 17 bikes later the 9.

Bubba - the way you sound on the phone I picture a good ol' boy in his dirty over alls, ring from his can imprinted in both back pockets, big ol' snuff hangin' out his lip and a can with its top all torn off for a spitter.

Goffyville my foot!

I skipped the prerequisite years of bike riding and ownership and went to an XB9SL within six months of starting at 43.

By the standards put forth here, I am not an old fart...just an older guy in a hurry....before essential shit starts to fall off...of me, that is.

Welcome....regardless of how old your farts are!

I'm new here too, although I recognize a bunch of the guys from around the web. Don't know how I missed this site! Lots of good info and strong opinions. I'm not quite an old fart, although my wife and kids beg to differ!

No-you guys are missing the point entirely. Old Farts can ride. I see 'em on Road Kings and FXR's and GoldWings all the time. Point is, you can't ride a Buell and be an old fart- it's not physically possible. I estimate the average brain-age of a Buell rider (in my case, at least) to be around 16.Maybe 14 at W.O.T. My M2 makes me young. Now, try to 'splain this to a 'wing rider, and they JUST DON'T GET IT. Anybody else ever shout out loud inside your helmet 'cause it's just SO DAMN FUN? I'm sure some of the people sitting out on the porch in a rocker must think I'm totally bats but I don't care. If you don't know that of which I speak, sell the Buell and get a Ford. Welcome to OldFartsVille...Next stop Casket Creek. BTW, WillyK, now we gotcha writing. See how EZ? Welcome aboard our little ship of fools. ck

Easy on the old farts on Road Kings, I still have an 03 Road King that is quite enjoyable for cruising.
The XB12R is for when I want to rock and roll.
At 42 with 18 bikes under my belt and 34 years of riding I thought I too fell into the old fart class. Maybe, only when I am riding the Road King.
Although, since I've bought the Buell I can't remember riding the Road King unless the boss was on the back.

I know what ya mean about old farts. One of the contractors at my plant told me Thursday "hey man they told me that was your Buell parked up front. I never would have guessed that you would ride a bike like that." So I said "what the hell do I look like I should be riding?" He said "a Gold Wing or something like that." I said "that would look real funny at track day! I guess you would have thought my other vehicle would have been a Suburban instead of the sports car that was parked where my motorcycle is yesterday." Go figure! Born 58 with lots of aches and pains from my crashes but never slowed down. Welcome aboard.

Damn...Now I have to get one of those MotoThings!

Thanks RT. You just added to my Christmas in April List. That is unless I pick up a second set of wheels'n'tires to ride the winter roads. Used to love riding my KLR650 on the snow'n'ice.
