This topic came up in the Exhaust thread. I got bored a few days ago and decided to upgrade the stock moped-like horn with dual Crown Victoria horns. Yes, with a little trimming of the horns with a set of pliers and a few zip-ties they were installed under the shield. See threads below.

Well strait pipes was a too big of a project for me this weekend, so I made my bike louder another way. There was just enough room under the shield to remove the stock moped-sounding horn and install dual Crown Victoria horns. It sounds awesome and LOUD! Never again will I be ashamed to blow my horn at some a$$hole driver!! The best part about this mod is it was free! Not sure what I'm looking at in the pics.

Is the one in the first picture held by you or is it on the outside of the housing?

In the second picture, are the two round things the new horns?

It sounded good, any idea if it could be done with a Firebolt?

Archangel,In the picture I'm holding the stock horn for size reference only.

Here's the best for my Step-by-step for installation:
1) Remove front shield and cut the horn wires where just before the disconnects are crimped. You won't use the disconnects when installing your new horns.
2) Take out the stock horn and all horn brackets (there's 2 black straight brackets and 1 silver "L" bracket)
3) Crown Vic horns, like many other old car horns, come wired together on a bracket with about 6" of wire separating them (probably one red and one black wire). Cut these wires and wire nut them back together with an additional 6"-12" wire stemming from them (one from the red wire and one from the black). 16-18 gauge wire will work.
4) Connect your two new wires with wire nuts or tube connectors to the two stock horn wires. +/ - polarity does not matter for the horn.
5) Zip-tie your new horns in place under the shield the best you can. Space is limited and I was concerned about vibration against wiring and devices so use your best judgment. I also had to trim some of the plastic from the Crown Vic horns in order for the shield to fit back on.
6) Put the shield back on. If your muffler uses an interactive exhaust valve (stock 12's do) you may want to up your stock 10amp fuse with a 12.5 or 15. It's fuse #9 on my bike and shares power with the brake lights and exhaust valve. Pull the brake and honk the horn and if it doesn't blow it should be fine.

Hope this step-by-step's good enough Phwx2. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Safety 1st guys and it's usually the other person's fault.....so let those mother F'ers hear you!

Bird, I wish I could tell you what year they came off of but I really don't know. My buddy works for the county so he took them off a wrecked police car. Probably 2000'ish but I'm sure any model would work. Hey if people aren't confused enough with the sound of our loud mufflers, we'll surely get them confused with the horn!
