So...was I right? I'm betting all the dollars and cents vanished as soon as you started riding : )

Congrats, and enjoy!

I've found N is always easier to find with a 'blip' of the throttle - tuber, XB, 1125, any of 'em. Typically also easier to go up from first, than down from second. YMMV.

If it gets *impossible* to find, could be time for a primary adjustment (that would also be accompanied by harder shifting).

Simple solution? Forget Neutral - keep out of traffic and stay moving ; )

How about the auto clutches? Let loose the throttle and neutral. Turning HD based engines into ridleys.

Buells *hate* throttle blipping in neutral or with the clutch in. Don't sit there and snap the throttle trying to make the vroom-vroom noise, it'll pop like you're describing (which is an intake backfire, by the way). Smooth and steady on the throttle is the way they like to be run. You can open it quickly if you need to accelerate...just don't *snap* your wrist to try and crack it all of a sudden.

There's really no need anymore, anyway. In real cold, wet weather I've had carbureted bikes that *require* blipping or they'll stall (out of adjustment, REALLY bad weather, whatever). The fuel injection on newer bikes makes the vroom-vroom blip obsolete.

The other thing that XB's hate is opening the throttle when trying to start. Again - could be habit if you're used to carbureted bikes. Best way I've found for myself (I have 2 carbureted Buells in the garage, with my Ulysses) - make a fist, wait for the light to go out, point a finger at the starter button, press button with the hand still in a fist. No open hand, no temptation to crack the throttle. Weather we're having right now (20s-30s), it can take 2 or 3 tries to get it to fire over and run...but that's OK with me, just the bike's way of asking "are you *sure* we need to go out today?". "Normal" riding weather, fires first time every time.

I *have* to do it.

Owning 2 tubers (carbureted) and being simple-minded, it's easy for me to "forget" which one I'm about to ride and how to treat it, LOL.
