Ok, got a small base gasket leak on my rear jug of my XB9SX. So, figure I will do a full gasket rebuild of my XB this winter. Looking at going with the gasket set from American Sportbike. Though, for fun I was thinking of going with the .30 head gasket vs. the stock .40 to raise the compression a tad. Anyone done this before? My bike already has the race ECM and filter on it with a Drummer pipe. Dunno if there would be anything else I would need to look for doing with raising the compression a bit with that change.

That sounds like a lot of work that just doesn't need doing. I would re-torque the jugs and see if it stops leaking. If not I would only fix what's broken. As for the .30 head gasket, I would stick with the .40 just because the compression gain wouldn't be worth the loss in sealing power the missing .10 would provide. Others will say the missing .10 will increase the sealing power. There are definately two sides to that coin and both are relevant.

How would I go about retorquing the jugs? Do I have to rotate the engine and remove the rocker box cover? Is it the 12 point bolts that can be seen? Anyone know the socket size? I don't think I have a 12 point socket that big.

My rear base gasket is seeping, very slowly and i'm not about to tear down the engine for a leak that minor.

My bikes seep but I couldn't care less. If it's that minor and you don't care...you're done. Wasn't that easy ?
