today i bought these turn signals for my xb9r. http://members.tccoa.com/rjpeters/turnsig.jpg
i dont currently have the bike cause its in the shop; i was wondering how to wire them up when i get the bike back. Does the bike signals have 2 wires? Because these only have two wires.

Yep, the bikes have 2 wires. You will need to be sure to get the proper connectors to plug the lights into your bikes wiring also. The service manual refers to them as bullet connectors. I know the replacement signals I buy had to small a connector, I bought the right size at Autozone for like 2 bucks, then it was just a matter of splicing them on and plugging them up.
I have a XB9S, but I imagine our wiring is pretty much the same. It is hard to tell if your turn signals have the wires marked to tell them apart. On my signals the wire from the signal with the BLK wire went into the bikes BLK connector. The other one goes into the blue/purple wire

Ya, I got those signals on my Bolt. There are two wires. One black ground, and one blue or brown hot wire. It doesn't matter which one you use. 12v is easy!

the signals i bought both wires are white... may have to wait for the bike and test try =/

that is common. If you look one of the whites /should/ have a black or silver stripe or a line of + signs or - signs somewhere to let you know which is hot. If there isn't then just plug and go, if the light isn't quite right reverse the wires.

Here's the lovely thing about light bulbs - it doesn't matter which one goes to which. The light will come on. Trust me.

its not the bulb but the electrics downstream, they are twitchy sometimes and get picky about the return and the filiments do work slightly different if the current runs the other way. It can cause a problem.

no markings on either wire they are both the same. Im assuming that they work either way.

like I said if you hook it up, and the signal is slow or won't blink switch the wires around

I would connect ground and hot to the correct wires. That way if you even install LED inserts at a later point in time they will work. If you swap the connectors the LEDs will not work.

If you get flashes of darkness instead of a flash of light you have the wires connected in reverse.

Didn't you guys know that lighbulb is a misnomer. In reality a bulb does not emit light, but sucks dark. Just ask PaulinOZ.

If that happenes you have a problem with the bulb. IE the wattage, Ohms, etc. Like Darth said the wires do not matter it is a continuous circut kinda like the wires on your horn. No matter which way they clip on they will work.

I beg to differ on this. I hooked up the wires in reverse and blew the Accessory fuse, fixed the wires back, replaced the fuse and the problem didnt occur.
It was the front left hand side blinker (looking at the front of the bike).
I test each light as it goes on to make sure that it is hooked up correctly.

I'm going to sasy this one more time. Ford and Delphi thought I knew enough about wiring to send me to Hiroshima all expenses paid for 8 months. Trust me on this.

It does not matter which way you wire a two-lead light BULB. PERIOD.

No offense, but if you experience problems like you described, then you screwed something else up.

I built over one hundred front lighting jumpers for Mustang prototypes last year. Spidey even tried to give me a new nickname because of them (Dreads - you can ask him if you want to know). They included a two-lead 12V turn signal bulb. Guess what? I didn't pay any attention to which wire went to which lead because it doesn't matter - and the lighting on all 45-something vehicles worked fine.

As someone earlier mentioned, it matters for LEDs because the D in that stands for Diode, which only allow current to flow one way. But an LED is not a LIGHT BULB.

If you still don't believe me, go turn the batteries around in one of your flashlights.

Hey folks, could you all give me an idea of what setups you are using for your flush-mounted front turn signals? I would imagine that finding one small enough to deal with the fairing contour would be difficult. But then again, maybe not....

Fasteddieb has got a nice setup on his, and i think he used the same signals as Harleybritt. They replaced the mirrors on their Firebolts with some small, flush turn signals. Pics of both can be found by digging through the archives.

I've seen those pics where they put bar end mirrors on. That does not appeal to me, I'm looking to keep my mirrors on the fairing but eliminate the stock T/S for flush a mounted set.

the ones i bought are really small, i know some people have them on the rear so i know they fit back there. I bought 2 sets and am going to try to install a set on the front faring ill let you know when i get the bike back =/
