I did a couple searches for warranty and void and a few combinations but didn't find what I need. Is it HD policy to void a warranty after a track day? If so, do they record your VIN at a track day? Specifically AZtrackday.com?

Your VIN isnt recorded anywhere. And talk about doing them on any of the boards. If its a Buell sponsored track day, they will keep track of any releases that you sign & that can be used as evidence against you.

But if its a trackday that isnt specifically associated with Buell in anyway & so long as you keep quiet about it..then they have no way to finding out.

PS....read your insurance policy as well. Most insurances will not cover any damage that occurs on a race track.

Well, I certainly WON'T be doing ANY of those track day things then.

Thanks for the tip.

If you read the AZtrackday disclaimer it states that it is not a race event. It is an instructional event. Now it might be splitting hairs but you aren't actually racing.

I did read that, and they do specifically mention that you are not to "race" under any circumstances. I don't know, I think I'll just stay away from the track for two years.

Being a former dealership employee in 2 H-D dealerships, a Ford dealership, and a Dodge and Chrysler/Plymouth dealership, my experience has been this: The chances of your warranty being voided due to "abuse" are pretty slim. In the ten years that I worked in the field, I only witnessed 4 incidences where a warranty was voided. On top of that, the servicing dealer was who made the call and all the cases it was an egregious violation. They were:

1-A Harley owner who was told that drag pipes would void the warranty and said owner installed the pipes himself anyway, didn't replace the gaskets, and warped an exhaust valve.

2-A Plymouth Horizon owner who never changed the oil and the engine spun a bearing at 40,000 miles. The reasoning for not changing the oil; it was under warranty so she didn't think she had too. Couldn't understand why Chrysler said no.

3-Dodge Omni GLH Turbo owner who destroyed the transaxle autocrossing the car. Dealer said it wouldn't be covered but Chrysler said it would because they promoted the model as being a good autocross car. Chrysler did tell the owner to be more careful not to speed shift from 2nd to 3rd and that the next tranny was on him.

4-Plymouth Reliant owner who tore the oil pan open by driving over a concrete center divider and light pole. Obvious.

If you show up with is obviously a prepared race machine, or the bike looks like it was drug behind a truck through a swamp, then yes, your chances of voiding your warranty are very good. Acting like a jerk will get you nowhere fast also. Buell/H-D knows how these bikes may be treated and accepts the possibility that they may have to fix some. My experience with H-D has been this: customer satisfaction is a very high priority, and they look the other way a lot. The Buell brand is promoted as a high performance machine and promote many events that in the strictest legal sense constitute "abuse". How long do you think Buell would survive if they voided the warranties of every machine that showed at an event they promoted that was still under warranty? Not long. The wording is there so they have a legal foot to stand on for the egregious cases, not for those who want to enjoy their machines in a manner in which they were designed and marketed.

Aydenxb9, I was curious about how warranty voiding process works. If a dealer decides that abuse has occurred, that dealer reports your VIN number to Buell and nobody will do any warranty work any longer. Is this a general description of the process?

Has anyone out ther had their waranty voided?

"customer satisfaction is a very high priority"

That is not a universally valid statement.
The fact is that the warranty approval process is extremely subjective and variably applied based upon local interpretations of what is and is not a related factor in a component failure.

M1,
Ignore Dyna, he prefers the wet blanket approach to life.
Do the track day(s). If you don't you will never know how much fun they can be and how much you will learn.
It is doubtful you will have any warranty issues as a result of track days.

That is too funny !!! M1 do your track days and enjoy, but keep repeating the above to everyone else !!

The wording is there so they have a legal foot to stand on for the egregious cases, not for those who want to enjoy their machines in a manner in which they were designed and marketed.

I totally agree with that, you just have to use common sense !!

Nice post AND nice bike choice !!!

Very very true.

It is doubtful you will have any warranty issues as a result of track days.
Dont count on it. Call it a "wet blanket" statement all you want, fact is your warranty can be compromised if Buell or your dealer knows you are participating in track days. Some dealers dont care & will cover your bike anyways. Other dealers will tell you it wont be an issue, but push comes to shove they will bend you over & stick it to you.

To deny otherwise is simply burying your head in the sand & stating that their are no problems or discrepancies in the way warranties are handled in a case by case or dealer to dealer basis.

Comes down to this...cover your ass when it comes to your warranty if you value it at all.

Oy Vey...Here we go again. When is someone with proper authority going to make a public statement about Track Days and BattleTrax vs Warranties. I see seemingly authoritative annon's posting on other threads on the BWB, why not here?

I dont' participate in either with my Buell or HD, but it wouldn't make any difference as I am out of warranty. However, in the event I do buy another HD/BMC product, it would be nice to know in advance if I am shooting myself in the foot.

FWIW - If you buy a bike from most of the AZ dealers, a track day is given to you for free... I GUESS they would expect you to use it after you complete break in :).

"The wording is there so they have a legal foot to stand on for the egregious cases"

I doubt that we will see any annon's commenting on this.
To make a broad statement like,
"Track days or BattleTrax will not void your warranty"
isn't going to happen in my opinion.
I don't blame them either. A statement like that leaves the door a little too open for warranty abuse.

Exactly...well kina exactly:D
The only problem is that the abuse deal works both ways. You can leave your bike perfectly stock & yet still run into a few issues with it & the "track days" & B-trax events leave the dealer & or Buell a way to opt out of repairing a customers bike.

"...fact is your warranty can be compromised if Buell or your dealer knows you are participating in track days."

I disagree. Dyna, in the one case upon which you are basing your cautionary advise, the owner was clearly beligerent towards Buell. When it comes down to an adversarial face off between opposing attorney, then yes, you should count on the opposing attorney to make full use of the Buell warranty statements.

A track day is not "competition". I seriously doubt that even the Battle Trax scenario would hold up as a warranty voiding issue in any court. A lawyer may have tried to claim it as such, but it ain't gonna hold water, especially if Buell sponsors the event. Use some common sense on the issue, geez.

A hot-headed, mouthy, beligerent customer will be treated much less enthusiastically than one who is rational and mutually respectful. You need to be honest about this. There just is no basis, other than the one single case with which you are familiar, to give anyone pause wrt Buell and their integrity in honoring a warranty claim. In fact, there are thousands of cases involving Good-Will upgrades and Good-Will repairs that prove the exact opposite, that Buell is one of the absolute best and most responsive manufacturers around when it comes to honoring warranty claims. I've experienced this personally as have many others.

Your one single case is statistically meaningless. Not only for the fact that it is a singular case, but that it involved other factors that you are not honestly reporting. I asked you before to come clean on this, but you have yet to do so. That ain't right. YTour warnings on this subject appears less informative, and more as a misinformation campaign aimed at seeking revenge.

I just wish you would tell the whole honest story. As it is, it is ridiculously one sided, and we all know that there are two sides to every such story.

I've said it before but I guess it needs repeating...if nobody believes me..hell even Dave knows Buell wont say it wont affect your warranty...all it will take is for you to call Buell customer service & ask them.

M1, call em up & ask either John or Renee or go higher up & ask for Randal Hendricks or roger Roszelar..might have spelled that wrong...& ask if participation will void or lets say..could void..your warranty.

I never said in all cases it would, its a dealers call & they themselves can void it or Buell can.

PS Blake, Buell considers B-trax competition & therefore a race because you do compete for trophies. Do you honestly think this is just 1 small example of a giant corporation going after the little guy? There are others out there right now that arent as loud mouthed as I am & are fighting the same battle.

Unfortunately however you have closed your eyes & mind to the concept of people actually getting screwed over for these types of issues. I noticed no comment has been made regarding all the folks getting screwed out of their "money back warranty" deal.

>>>>>John Roszelar..might have spelled that wrong

You did.

His name is R-O-G-E-R. As in World Land Speed Record Holder on a Buell at one time.

The "up side" is that that particular line, among all in the post, comes closest to being "accurate information" in that you nearly got the lat name correct.

Good people, Blake hit the nail on the head. Buell has gone to extraordinary lengths to provide excellent warranty service to it's customers.

There is, as Aaron pointed out when he declared this thread more laughable than the jokes pages, mostly hogwash awash here. I'd suggest the input be treated with due respect to the source and you (I will be) make decisions based on your information.

Anyone else here really beleive the magician sawed the lady in half....I suspect there are details we just don't know.

...

wait for it...

I'll stay off the track for two years. I'll never travel any faster than the posted speed limit (do they mind if I always travel the posted speed limit in third gear?), I won't throw my motorcycle from any burning choppers (or helicopters). I like my warranty. I'll keep it if I can.
