been watching a few discussions about the problem with the rear wheel bearings on the Uly.. I recal reading somewhere an opinion that the problem may be with the wheels.. causing bearing failure...

its would really be a shame if Buell didnt address this ..... too bad such a great bike has to suffer from this...

just wondering what the latest was on this ?? any REAL fixes yet ??? or is it just "change them frequently and pray" ???

If you have been watching the threads, you will see that Buell changed the seals like promised. Only time will tell if it is the fix.

Why is it limited to the Uly?

I have a Uly and have heard nothing from Buell. Was it a recall?

It is not limited to the Uly, but the Uly has the highest rate of failure, because we ride in the rain ; )

Problem is water getting past the seals, ruining the bearings. Buell changed the seals starting sometime in August. Most of the 09s have the new black seals.

There is no recall. Could there be in the future? Who knows.

I had the rear wheel bearings go out on my XB12XT at 10,000 miles - well, it was found during a tire replacement at the 10K mark. On the bearing that was bad, the orange/red seal had come out of the inner race. Riding in the rain probably escalated the bearings failure, but with the seal not in it's proper location failure was inevitable.

My replacement bearings have black seals,

Errr...Slight correction is in order...The rear wheel bearing was found at 11,058 miles, it was the right fork seal that started leaking at 10,000 miles.

At these low miles, my S2 was a lot more trouble free...I sure hope this is NOT a trend with the XT,
