I bought my bike from a used car lot and the seller was the owners son, and I know him. he told me i could take my bike to http://www.buildmycustom.com/ . I don't want to run up a huge bill because i want them to make some money but what should i ask the shop fix or what would be the most worth while thing to do and not run up a huge bill? I talked to the shop for a little bit they said they know that Harley cap there idle off because its not good to mess with. is that the same way with Buells? How much would changing out the spark plugs and changing oil be?

I see in your profile you have a XB12R. The idle adjustment isn't capped off on the Buell's.
A dealer and or shop would charge $100.00 dollars minimum to change the oil and plugs.
What problems are you having?
A number of people here can guide you with repairs if you are some what mechanically inclined.

well ill get lil picky...idles about 600-650rpms id say. maybe its normal but at warm up it starts one cyclinder and kinda pulsates from one to two cyclinders but like i said maybe its normal for Buells. I also noticed a very slight light flickring when idling. Also when i first bought the bike i would close in on a stop light and it would back fire shoot blue flames out exaust ...hasnt done it as often as i first got it but last night I let go of throttle to coast and BANG! scared the crap out of me.

Idle is low. If you have no idea how to do the work yourself bring it in have the TPS reset and have fluids changed. While thats being done order the service manual that way you wont have to bring it back to them in the future.

Buying the parts manual is a great idea too. Gives you all the part numbers, and shows how everything goes back together.

Sounds like you could use a TPS reset and idle adjustment. Check out the Buell Riders Assistance Network (BRAN) ( http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/boar d-auth.cgi?file=/42/42.html&lm=1226005756 ) and see if there is someone close to you with software and cable to help you out. Otherwise, take it to your local Buell dealer, they shouldn't charge you more than an hour's worth of labor to do it.

the idle is easy, if you have hands you can fix that. look behind the left hand air scoop. there is a little silver knob with an allen wrench hole in it. thats the idle adjustment screw. turn the idle up. should idle at 1050-1150

mine is set at about 500 rpm and does just fine, but it is tuned a little different than stock also so the fueling is changed.

i'd try that first and see where it gets you. a new set of plugs cant hurt as a next step and they arent that hard to change once you do it

The light flickering would most likely be your oil pressure light because the idle is too low.

The oil pump is designed to provide the correct pressure to the engine at the idle No_rice stated above.

Sounds like he needs plugs before adjusting things. Also read threads about starting and blipping throttle to help with future flame outs.

Do you have any video clips of it idling that low? It must sound cool!

Mine starts off idling low and i've never seen the oil light flicker.

Moose it does sound cool, I got mine set to 750 right now. I used to have it at 500, but when cold on a cold day it was next to impossible to keep it started without holding at 1000 for a minute. Also my electronics are starved that low.
