Preferred front stand is the style with its lift-point below the steering stem. Instead, I have the style that lifts from each fork tube lower end. Looking for work-around to XB's unequal length fork tubes and these stands. Will Micron's muffler take lifting forces? | ||

Most stands that hold by the fork tube will not let you take the axle off. Found out the hard way and ended up getting creative with logs. The Micron will get crushed like the aluminum can it is   | ||

I looked at exactly what you're talking about. My thinking was to hand-fit some aluminum pieces to the fork ends and JB-Weld them in place so the bottoms were the same distance from the axle. I ended up just getting the front end stem lifter from Pit Bull and so didn't do it afterall (but it should work). | ||

I have and still use the come-a-long on the ceiling beam system but prefer the pit-bulls when they are not being used. i think they are a great investment. | ||

Froggy, why would it not let you remove the axle? I just made my own pair of stands but haven't had the front under the bike yet. Just wondering if I needed to make a design change before sending them off to the powder coater. Thanks for any insight. | ||

Wooden muffler jack.  This works great. Cost zero if you borrow the wood from a nearby construction site. Works like this. You put three 2 x 4's under the muffler. Bike is on rear stand, front wheel on. Then you take the long piece of wood and carefully lever up the muffler so your girlfriend can put a fourth 2x 4 under the muffler. ( Place them under the front jacking point.) Lower the bike slowly about a quarter of an inch till it is resting on the wood. Front wheel is now just off the ground. Good idea to loosen the front axle just a bit before starting operation. Key points to remember. 1. Return wood. 2, Don't drop bike on GF.  | ||

I have a pit bull that holds the front end at both the steering stem or from the forks. When I removed my front wheel I had to use the fork set up, but for everything else the stem set up works well. I just recommend having a buddy if you are worried about the bike tipping. Using a rear stand helps balance it out also. I also would like to reiterate that the micron will not take the load, but it performs and sounds great. |
