I just have a few questions, I'm about 5 9 and I'm able to plant both feet on the ground does that mean the bike has been lowrd? reason i ask is because i bought it used 2004 buell xb12r with 7404 miles has micron exaust. also is it normal for a buell to start off on what sounds like a singel cyclinder? also is it supposed to be able to do a wheelie by 6000rpms in first gear, because mine doesn't...just wondering if it has some engine problem.

can you lower a buell? buells have the bikes rear shock in a way that it cant be lowered by regular means of using dogbones...?

well, there are several ways you can work to at it, but this is my only guess, you might have trouble shifting gears though. And dont forget these

one cylinder has to fire before the other one lol

i think the "low" models have a yellow spring. (look in front of the swingarm) i don't know if the R's come lowered from factory. who did you buy it from? do they know?

bring the rpms up to ~4000, then close the throttle and immediately chop it wide open. that'll do the trick.

yea i was never able to power wheelie my 12r, clutching does fine.... only in 1st gear, havent mastered 2nd gear wheelies

Yes the XB12SCG has a yellow spring in addition to a different seat, thats how you pick it out from the normal height bikes.

Well Great, the comments ease my mind off the problems I thought existed. it has a blue spring in back...and excuse me for not know much, Im not much of a tech guy I just got this bike so i can ride it for a while before I go to the Marines in June. I have been going lil crazy going fast and between cars and on the dotted line and all but one thing scares me and thats leaning...I feel like im going to dump my bike if I go to far...but i can't seem to make a stop light lane turn faster then 20mph. any advice how to conquer my fear?

Ohh one more thing my bike idles about 600rpms or under 1000 how do I set the Idle? and ill also mention I sold my car to get the buell in November ...so i guess im a bad weather rider, although freezing rain was not fun to ride home from work in.

idle is below 1k on buells normally as far as i know. don't mess with it until you know more about the bike. get some good rain gear if you don't have any.

9m9knight, pics are helpful, post them if you can. anyways, advice: take a riding course (if you haven't yet) asap. then take some more courses afterwords -- most times the people who do the basic rider course also offer advanced stuff, as well as most tracks that let on motorcycles. Also, low speed practice in a parking lot is always a good thing -- i still pull in and work on body position and tight s turns now and again. the basics (not a substitute for a real course) are: steady speed, brake before you get to the corner (you can and should always accelerate a little out of the corner, so slow in is better than fast in any day of the week), start at the outside of the corner moving in as you turn until you can see the exit of your turn and then you move back out to the outside, remember buells are burly so you can over torque or over brake in corners if you don't take it easy, and finally trust the bike and relax...and go take the course!

once you get 5000+ miles and take a course or three you will be a better rider but honestly a bit of fear is a good thing on a bike, keeps you paying attention so you can avoid the dangerous people.

The bike will not idle on one cylinder so you're fine there.

idle should be @ 1050rpm @ operating temps after the AFV is compensated for riding conditions.

Dont take this the wrong way. If you "cant wheelie" a 12R its more about your technique than the bike's ability. I would not try to wheelie if you are uncomfortable. Thats is a good way to get hurt and trash the bike. Take it easy, baby steps. Get some more time in the saddle. (IMHO, the XB12 bikes are wheelie machines in the right hands) FYI: mine likes to get lofty starting @ 3500rpms.

Check your static timing. See my post further down the page to see how. My low end power increased significantly when I corrected the static timing.

but one thing scares me and thats leaning I'm with you on that one. I have a nice slow corner with no cars on the way to and from my house. So I've just been practicing on that corner leaning a little more each time. As I get more comforatable I lean more and go a little faster. I want to take a "road race" Class at the track next summer but they aint cheap...btw good luck, be patient, and welcome aboard!

Thank you every one this will be the first stop for my Buell. The wheelie thing I'm not tring to do one and I just I guess dont know much about bikes, I just thought if I threw open the throttle it would do a wheelie by itself. and I will check the static timing.

Yeah, I lowered my bike by swapping the Forks, kicktsand and shock off a Lightning Low, aka a XB12SL. They also have the XB12SCG which is the newer lowered model. I lowered my 03 Firebolt this way. As for wheelies, dude I lift the front end up taking my 9R to redline 1st thru 3rd gears, and its just the 9. The 12 should be crazy wheelying.

timing may or may not be an issue, seems something dangerous to play with right out of the gate...maybe a tune up and a oil change to start first?

if you really want to ride it well, take the class. it's always the rider, not the bike...to many people seem to never quite get that...

Why didn't anyone mention a TPS RESET ? Gotta do that before setting the idle. Put in plugs first and that should be your 'tune up'.

Well why does it seem that my first gear just gets high rpms and doesnt do much till about 6000 but 2nd gear she gets up and moves almost like im wieghtless. is that normal for Xb12r?

Not normal at all. I wish you were closer so I could check your bike out. Also to note, the Micron is a bit of a bitch fueling wise, contact Al @ American Sport Bike to get a fuel map for the bike. Single best improvement I made to mine.

well i just got back from a ride and first gear does get up and go somewhat but i still feel that 2nd gear kicks it open...but im going to a shop tomorrow and they will hook it up to a comp check it out. how much does it cost to get oil and spark plug change? you guys said no more then $150 right? what kind of oil should I put in? and what kind of spark plugs? I also got a kickass helmet with smoked shield today for total of $56. No need to spend $400.
