Hello all, Let me first start out by saying that I have read alot of the posts on several subjects here. My brother had an X1 which is the first and only Buell I have ever ridden ( up the street and back counts i assume). I loved that bike. Since then my brother has been rear ended at a stop sign by someone on their cell phone. THis cracked the case and pulled the motor out of its mounts. He is ok and has healed and slowly worked his way back on to two wheels. I haven't bought a/my buell yet. and would like some input as to if I am on the right track or perhaps some other avenues that I havent thought of yet. I really like the look of the XB9SX. All of my experience has been on dirt bikes, and I like seeing whats over the next hill until it gets dark. My thoughts are to get a cityx with the touring seat installed for my 400 mile(round trip) commute for work once a week. As well I would like to just take off every now and then with nothing but my name and a grin. I know that it is probably best to get a ulysses but the cityx is within the budget. With all of this said would there be any reason why i should wait for a uly or other option to be within reach? Nothing says that i cant have more than one Buell down the line. No reason to wait, but shop around, the price difference between models isn't huge, so you might find a good deal on a Uly. The CityX is quite different from the Uly, so if possible ride both. | ||

Im not a fan of the cafe' racer (though the whole XB lineup looks sharp).... I would follow the buell motto "built from the rider down" .... and get the full faring 1125R because you wont have to fight the wind blasts when the time comes   2cents | ||

Well when you can find a (non wrecked) 1125R going for the same price as a few year old CityX, give me a ring....  | ||

cityx with the touring seat installed for my 400 mile(round trip) commute for work once a week. You haven't mentioned what kind of commute. Super slab, two lane highway, or? If mostly freeway you are going to want to look at the long wheel based bikes. As much as I like my Cityx, the short wheelbase gets old on the interstate. | ||

demo demo demo.....this will zero you in on what truely turns you on. i am biased and love my '06 cityX dearly. it does everything i ask of it and more. the cityX is a very well suited commuter, but long h-way runs can be rough in stock form. my bike has been changed quite a bit from the original riding position and is now much more enjoyable on the slab. also do some searching around here, the cityX cross lends itself nicely to be transformed into a mini-uly.  | ||

I really appreciate all of this input guys!! The commute is a long stretch of desert between California and Vegas. Most of the drive is two lanes each direction. There are a few long sweeping turns. The majority of the variations in this drive are the changes in elevation. I thought that test riding was out of the question on bikes. I am 6'1" so I am "leaning" (no pun intended) more toward an upright position. thanks alot Randy | ||

I'm 6'1" and 210lbs, I had an XB9SX and truly loved everything about it. It was a great long distance bike, and I felt comfortable doing 400 mile days on it no problem. I had the stock seat, and a Laminar lip to help with the wind. I traded it in on an '08 XT and still miss that city-X.  If it's just you, and no passenger, I say get the city-X !!! | ||

Am I going completely nuts? I got an email response to this thread. I click through and the post is not here? Did Js_Buell's post get deleted? Or has Blake's box barfed up some more data? test ride, test ride, test ride. on the length issue, if you compare a suzuki sv1000 to an xb (fair comparison) you will find that the sv's longer wheelbase (and standard damper) makes it ride a bit "better" on the highway than your standard length xb by a bit but it isn't anything earth shattering and that says a lot since the sv has both more length and a damper. get a cityx or you could also see if a dealer has a remainder 06-07 uly that they will let go at a nice discount. | ||
