With a wheel and the right sandpaper it should take an hour or less. Looks good, did mine way back while they were still on bike and by hand. They turn a nice gold/chrome color after a heat cycle.

I started with 320 grit wet (89cents), and a palm sander to knock down all the cuts and grooves from the factory, then went to a "3m finishing wheel" (6 bucks) used an air compressor and die grinder for that, then a buffing wheel and jewelers rouge(12 bucks)

Didnt take more than 2 hours...3 if you count rotating the motor to pull them off, but I had the bike all torn apart anyways while I polish the frame!

hope that helped!

Just sanding will get them shining like that, did mine that way but I went overboard 320 grit to 2000. Current bike had wrapped header so I'm ok untill I have to do this set.

yes it will turn gold, but it will still by a nice polished finish.

I know of some other guys on here that have done it and when the pipes turn gold again they look even Better.

some one had a nice stock, polished, then after some mileage comparisons pics, maybe they will chime in

Here are my pipes, first shot is after polishing , second shot forty days later.
ss

I polished them on the bike. I used a 3M finishing wheel, a little drum sander with alternating layers of sandpaper and Scotchbrite pads. Fine grade. This got out the tool marks. Then worked my way up with wet and dry sandpaper to 1500. Finished with Luster Lace, a polish embedded nylon ribbon that wraps around the pipe when polishing.

Eagle Mag One is good too for periodic clean ups. These are the 2004 pipes.

I used 80 grit, got nice n shiney, but as the pics from Jon show, they turn back to bronze quickly.

80 Grit?? Thats it? I think 80 grit would leave some serious groves

I plan on starting with maybe 300 then working my way up till about 1500 or until my arms fall off. I will post some pics when the snow falls and I have some free time to do it.

Here are two pictures of my Ulysses header after some light polishing. I didn't take them to a mirror shine, this was done just with S100 polishing soap. The 1st picture is immediately after polishing, the 2nd picture is ~80 miles later:

The color will turn gold over time, but the shine will stay. Eventually they'll get dirty and dull looking from riding in the rain, but the shine comes back with a quick application of the polishing soap.
