If you have current going to the fan but it is not turning on or off despite the temperature I would say that the engine temp sensor is at fault and would be looking to replace it.

There is one of the steps in the troubleshooting section of Code 36 that refers you to the Engine Temp sensor trouble Code 14.

The et sensor does not have to throw it's own code to be at fault on this one as it can still have continuity but have "shifted" and not sending the correct info to the ecm.

i had similar symptoms when my fan died, it would run for a second then just pop the fuse. replace the fuse, run for a second, then pop fuse. the check engine light always came on when this happened however.

the dealer just replaced the fan and it was fixed, not sure if this is the way fans usually die though.

Am on my 3rd fan. Both popped the fuse with a check engine light. 1st replaced under warranty,
2nd I bought from Al and replaced myself. So far so good.
The rear cyl cover gasket was leaking and
both fans had a light coat of oil on them.
Sortta think they may have shorted
when they coating of oil got inside ?
Funny thing is the CR has 2 of them.
C.
