Its 30 out currently and I just got back from a ride. I was plannin on 100 ish miles but I had to end early because it started snowing pretty good. The state of MN of coarse has sent the salt trucks out in full force. LAME. I dont mind the cold but I draw the line at road salt.

Thermometer on garage said 20 this morning, road was dry, so I rode. Rained on me on the way home after work. It had warmed up a little. Got the hose out to rinse the wheels and fenders off. There was ice in it. I'll probably park it when they start salting.

excuse my ignorance, but why do people stop riding when the roads get salted? i guess its like riding on a sand covered road? i don't get salted roads in sc, so i was just wondering....

Salt is nasty stuff, if you are like me and don't wash and wax the bike every ride. It eats magnesium so fast you can almost watch it. Personally I don't like trying to clean it off without it scratching every thing up. The new thing is to mix it with molasses then spray it on the road prior to the ice and snow. In short "It makes a mess"

PS real nasty on your face shield

Here in Cali it's been a balmy 70-75 degrees during the afternoon on my ride home.
Not exactly badweatherbiking, but I can't complain, can I??

Don't mind the cold but I worry about the black ice . At 5:30 am it gets a little hard to see it . So anything below 40 degrees is pretty much drive the jeep in time !
