I would also like to know about bags.... i think theres a rack made for the regular lightning but not the long and i don't know if it would even fit.

The Long and STT are the same bike. Good luck figuring out which one my bike is! : )

The racks are a custom job. They are the racks for a standard Lightning, but they had to be modded a bit to fit our bikes.

Did a 4k mi trip on my '08 this summer. Used the tank bag, soft saddle bags and top bag for the Lightning Long from the Buell accessory catalog. Bungeed a soft bag on top of that. Worked well; was able to stay on the road for 4ish weeks. Did wrap all of the contents in plastic bags, as the bags are best described as water resistant, not water proof. Left the number plates on, and they did get scratched, as I expected. I have a new set for 'everyday' wear.

Great experience, the bags are easy off and on, and the whole assy worked well. Plan on touring w/it in the future.

Ok... so now im really confused.

In the last pics.. the close up of the rack.. what is this bike??? It looks Black not Blue.... A converted TT ?? or a Loooooong or a standard ???

Where did the rack come from ?? dealer ?? dealer I went too says there is no rack for the Lightning ????

Last question...(for this post LOL).. can you get a passenger on the back ???

dont mean to sound like an idiot..just dont want to re-invent the wheel...from scratch.

thanks

I am trying to dig up the posts about it for you. The bike in the second pics is a Lightning Long, which is just a STT without the tall suspension.

The bike is owned by Baddwebber Terriwj, the wife of Crusty. Crusty had to modify the brackets to get them to fit. I am not sure where he got them, and I don't know if you can get a passenger on their. My solution is swap on a Uly tail section, thats my winter project : )

An Ss is NOT a TT. In 07 and 08 the TT suspension was unique to the TT and had more ground clearance (5.5in) and suspension travel (5.63in) than an 07 or 08 Ss(4.66 clearance and 4.72/4.97 travel).

According to a Buell tech I talked to at a show and the specs, it seems the popularity of the TT suspension caused it to be carried to the 09 Ss...and the new specs show that as far as straight up ground clearance and suspension travel go...the Ss has adopted the TT suspension.

But in 07 and 08, a TT was a TT and an Ss was an Ss. Same frame and most other stuff, but not the same ride. You can see the 08 difference on the Buell site, an internet querie will confirm my 07 claims.

Anyways, I use a tank bag and soft side bags for commuter work. For more I bungee a big duffel on the back on top of the seat and throwovers. My research shows the Lightning Long hard bags and trunk bag will fit our TTs.

The suspension was the only non-cosmetic difference. For the issues we are discussing here, it was irrelevant. : )

Alright, its not a TT, but had they had the TT when I bought, I would have that instead. Pic wont load from work (wtf?) Check my profile, it is a CityX with H&B brackets, Pelican Cases from Caribou, and a top rack from Ventura.
It all bolts right on.
