So my bulb for the Low fuel Blew out. the owners manual says that if the bulb blows out to replace the whole instrument cluster. Does anyone know the reasoning for this? I have been refilling about every 110 miles just to be safe. I can't see having to buy a new cluster just for the fuel light. Counting the mileage works for me!! |

You sure it is the gauge cluster? It could be the sensor in the tank. |

Just ground the wire going to the sender from the IM, and the lamp should light. If you've got to buy a new module, just to replace the bulb, I'd try to disassemble. The worst you could do is ruin it, and have to buy the one you were gonna buy anyway. I'm betting it's an easy fix. |

I say its the sending unit or something along those lines. If it was just the bulb you would still get the low fuel mileage countdown. |

The fuel mileage countdown begins when the light comes on (That function is triggered by the light). The sending unit (or a ground) is required to turn the light on. It is possible it is a broken wire in the harness, too. I'd check for continuity between the IM harness plug-in, and the pump-end, on the LowFuelLight circuit. |

Aw, you mean you can't replace the bulbs? Bummer! I'm not really happy with the brightness of the lights, and I was going to replace the bulbs with brighter ones. Guess not. |

Replaceable bulbs are: Turn signal indicator Check engine High beam Oil indicator Neutral Backlight Low fuel Replace instrument cluster if low fuel warning lamp fails. Manual says to check wires before trying to replace any bulb. Sorry. |

the owners manual says that if the bulb blows out to replace the whole instrument cluster The manual does say that, and it is not true. The bulbs are T1 Neowedge, Buell Part number Y0162.02A8 (bulb, cluster instrument backlight) |

Thanks for the info guys! I checked all the wires and they did have continuity. I also tried to ground the wire and the light didn't come on. I opened up the instrument panel and the fuel light is built right into the board. it is not a replaceable bulb like the other lights. Is that everything i can do to check this? i'm guessing it's the light itself since it didn't come on when i grounded the wire. |
