G'day,

Before I buy my first Buell, I have a question -- who better to ask than fellow Buell fans!

I'm 180lbs (80kgs) and 6 foot 1 inch (186cm). Should I be chasing a XB12Ss? They say it's designed for taller riders... I do plan on using it daily, for pretty much everything : ).

Cheers,
Zac

Awesome thanks. Is leg cramp an issue for tall riders on the XB12S? (ie the normal one)?

I know the seats are hard, but that lets you know you're still alive ; )

The ergonomics are the same on both bikes. Also to note, there is no XB12S for 2009, and the 09 XB12SS has a different suspension than the 08, making it quite a bit taller now. If you have ridden the 2008 STT, think of it as the same thing minus the beak.

6'2 195lbs. Fits like a glove. I also have the sport seat, which ups the ride height 1 inch.

6'1", and I have a knee that I can't bend properly due to a bad accident, and I find the long less cramped than a GSX1400.
And suprisingly, once you're on the road and moving, the seat ain't that bad (well at least it's tolerable!)

Thanks a lot for the input. I'll chase a XB12Ss, but if I can't find one I'll go for a XB12S and chuck a taller seat on it : )

I'm from Australia, they don't grow on trees here : (

Yea you're right there. If you want new, you'll most likely have to order it, and that means wait 2 and a bit months. They are worth the wait tho.
Where in Aus are ya? I'm up in Queensland, near Mackay.

Down in south-east Melbourne, I don't think I'd have to wait... there are a few floating around new (or near new) at Peter Stevens harley.

Once I have enough clams, I'll buy what I can (with minimal wait : )).

Also, would chucking a taller seat on a normal XB12S give enough leg room to make it comfortable? I'm not worried about stability too much, I don't plan on hooning ; ). I'm going for a Buell because of style, chicks, and I've done most of my riding on dirt (people say they're like dirt bikes, but for the road, handling, cornering etc).

Dunno bout the seat champ. I guess it would give an extra inch or so, but I wouldn't have the foggiest.
You're not far off on the dirt bike thing: they do "feel" sort of like a dirt bike to sit on, and ride (kinda). Get them into the corners and they're different again tho.

If you get the S model, put the cityX seat on it. Good seat and gives you a variety of seating positions for your height because of no dip in it. Only around a $100 or so too.

Foe a S model you will have to get 08 and below because in 09 there is only Scg and they are low for a tall guy, yess if you change the seat you will end up with the same seat to peg distance but you will still be 1" closer to the ground

I don't know what you all are talking about- I'm 6'2 1/2" and my standard S with a select seat fits me great.I have bad knees and a bad back and no issues. I looked at a long when I bought my S, and didn't find it worth it- I like the short compact looks of my S much better.

I also forgot to say that you might want to at least sit on both the S and Ss since I read here that the knee room in the frame is different and there is more room on the S compare to the Ss for your knees, so if you have very long legs it might influence your choice. I have a Scg with the regular S seat and I have no problem except that I might switch my suspension to the S just because I really wanted a S and couldn't get one in 09.

Awesome thanks!

I'll surely go along to the open day. If I don't end up buying a Buell -- I might end up with BMWs rip off, the F800ST : ) But I don't really think they compare to Buells...

I might go have a look at http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Automotive/Motorbikes/Road-Bikes/AdNumber=W754240869552?BackToResult=true (I don't know if the picture is correct...) today. What do ya think? Rememebr it's AUD not USD : )
Seriously there is no rush, the buy may even be 6 months away.

That bike is a STT so it has the same size as the Ss and it also gas the taller suspension like the 09 Ss. You would need the 2 up kit and seat if you want to take someone on a ride

Is it law in Australia, specifically Victoria to have the number plate in line with the end of the back wheel? Ie, somewhat behind the axle?

I searched the vic-roads website, but came up blank. The reason why I ask is, if I got that bike I'd like to remove some of the plastics to make it look more "Buelly".

Thanks a lot for the input everyone : )

im not sure about numberplate placement, but there is law about the mudguards and how far back they should be. it's something stupid like if you draw a line at a 45 degree angle through the back axle the mudguard should go past that point, which is ridiculous as many bikes, and certainly my 12R do not go anywhere near that as standard......

but yet it is common to hear of bikes being pinged for non standard tails, especially when the cops are blitzing the spurs and pulling over every bike on the road.

having said that, who cares, do it anyway, as long as you dont put the plate on the side chopper style you'd be fine 95% of the time. it's not something to worry about.

Problem is, I need to fit a 'P' plate there somewhere : )

And we all know, "P" means cop magnet : (. I think I'll go fully legal, until I'm off my Ps. Under the new LAMS laws, that'll be the same time I finish my car 'P's end of 2010...

Zacs7 I`m sure there is no problem removing the number plates since there is a 2up kit available from the factory and all the other buell don`t have those number plates and they are probably legal in your part of the world. For the cheese grater now I wouldn`t take that off if they are so anal about it.
