So I took my exhaust off and sent it out to Odie, Some how it was a 12 pipe with the butterfly valve. any way could that hurt the performance of the 9 motor. what where some of the pro's and con's of that pipe on there. I will soon have a Spec Ops pipe on it but I am curius.

It would depend on if the valve had been locked open. If Odie leaves the valve in place maybe you could compare with another bike with the standard pipe on. You may well be on to something.

This has been talked about before. My feeling is: If it was really a benefit, why don't the XB9's come from the factory this way? The standardization of parts in inventory alone would be a huge motivator to do it.

If it wasn't a benefit then both, 9 and 12, would not have the butterfly valve. Does anyone know the reason why the 9 is a better performer without the butterfly valve?

Buell felt that it was, at least to add another sku to their inventory.

Uh, it really depends on what you wanted. The 9 motor 'spun' up quicker than the 12. BUT the 12 feels to have more torque. I replaced my 9 motor with tranny problems with a 12 motor,9 primary, race kit. Yes there was a difference, but I would very much imagine that a 9 would not be very far behind.seeing as how he could keep the front end down longer than I could
