So I was getting ready to change my fluids today, and my bike was so excited it couldn't contain itself. Right side:  Left Side:  I can't tell if the leak is coming from the rear cylinder rocker cover gasket or the lower rocker cover gasket, there just so much blood. I just got the bike back from an intake leak fix also. This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | ||

Now that I think of it, the dealership switched my oil back to regular from Syn3 at my 5k service because I didn't mention I was running Syn3, I figured since they put in the Syn3 they would of had it noted in the comp. I was going to switch it back to syn3 today. I have feeling this was the reason. (Message edited by jeffroj on October 18, 2008) | ||

From what i have been told, regular is thicker, some people have reported leaks and burning oil after switching to synthetic in cars/trucks/bikes, its usually because the dino juice is thicker so it won't get through some smaller cracks in gaskets and rings. | ||

Check that they have not left the breather out of your rear rocker cover. If you have bypassed the intake breather and routed to a catch can you need to check that the hoses are not blocked. Mine did and the result was much the same as yours. | ||

Thanks Jason, I will check into that. There is rumors that once you switch to synthetic you can not switch back to regular. I am going to have to do some research. | ||

Jims gaskets are the gasket to use I am told. Also, if you are doing your own wrenching, the gasket goo I use is Threebond. White or grey is good. The grey is the stuff used on Hondas from new and recommended by BMW and works really well. Be sure to store it in the dark as it is sensitive to light in the long term. Inside its original box and in your toolbox with the lid closed is good. | ||

There is rumors that once you switch to synthetic you can not switch back to regular. Rumor nothing more. You can even mix the two if you wanted to. I've gone back and forth a few times when I couldn't find what I wanted. | ||

That's a leak ? It'll get worse but took mine another 3-6 months. $16 in gaskets, can't remember the labor since it was under warranty but I think it would cost under $250 to have it done. I'll do it myself if it happens again. Of course you can mix! What do you think all the mid prices 'synthetic blends' are? Had dyno juice in the first 5000 miles, just recently switched to Mobil1 4T. I've switched back and forth on my dirt bikes, usually run cheap dyno through a few times if I get water/mud in the case....then back to synthetic. | ||

Bombardier was correct. The breather was popped up, possibly from the installation of the filter backing plate when the intake leak was fixed last month. I'm so happy it wasn't a failed gasket, but also kind of sad that there is oil all over the bike behing the cylinder. Any ideas on how to clean the oil up? The Wizard's bike wash I have does a darn good job with brake dust, but haven't tried it yet on oil clean up. Thanks everyone. | ||

Jeffroj, Glad it wasn't something bad. The breather usually comes up when you take the plate off as the hose to the rear breather is shortish.Something to watch out for when changing the tps, engine temp sensor or ait. Plug leads too. (Message edited by Bombardier on October 22, 2008) |
