Hey everyone, just looking for a little help on some of the things I will need for my 20K service. I have a 05 XB9SX. I have had the 1k, 5k & 10k done at the dealership. I did the 15k myself, but there wasn’t much to that. I plan on doing everything myself for the 20k, except for the front forks. Does anything need to be done to the rear shock? My plan is to do the fluids, plugs, Brake pads & tires. What else do I need? Are there gaskets or O rings I will need? What are the part #’s? I have a 05 Firebolt service manual and feel that should be fine. What am I missing? I like keeping the bike in top shape and want to pre-order all the things I will need for this project, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help/comments/opinions. Thank God for BadWeb. |

Number 1 tool for working on your own bike? Service manual! It tells everything you need to do for each service interval. |

You forgot, check primary chain tension, resetting TPS (throttle position sensor), steering head adjustment, clutch adjustment (both at basket and cable), inspect brake lines, fluid, pads, belt, pulley, tensioner, oil cooler fins, and check all critical fasteners. That help? |

Yeah...if you're not doing the fork oil yourself, then the service is pretty easy. The service manual is yer Bible here... |

Fork oil change requires a spring compression tool. Traxxion dynamics has a nice inexpensive one. Plus I'd recommend a measuring device that you slide down into the fork to get an oil level reading. Good on you for doing your own services. It's the only way to go! |

Thanks Kowpow, yea my Dad owns a Midas shop so some of those guys will be around to help if I get stuck. I'm looking forward to knowing the Buell even more intimate. I had looked over the SM but didn't know if there was anything it might have over looked, but it seems they were quit thorough. I'm thinking of having the suspension redone by someone that can also tune them especially for me. As most will say, “spend the money on the suspension.” I’ll never forget my first track day, guys on 250’s killing people in the turns. Technique & suspension all the way. |
