I'm tossing this out there to get a feel if anyone is interested in persuing custom built handlebars for our lightning.

Currently there are no clubmans that work for our bike. Unless you add some spacers, but IMO that mod doens't look safe. It doesn't provide any tortional rigidty or strength.

I just received a bar I ordered on ebay that advertised being able to fit around triplpes. They were wrong. Plus the geometry is weird. Too much sweep.

I have a buddy that started building custom steel mountain bikes a while back and I could possibly get him interested in making a batch of hbars for us.

I haven't talked to him about it, but his a really good friend and I'm sure if we had enough pre ordered he'd do it.

So... HOw much would you be willing to pay? And how many would be 'in'?

The quailty of work would be top notch.
This is not a plug for mtbs or trying to make my buddy rich. I'm simply trying to get a product that would fill a lot of our wishes.

Would clubmans on a Uly be too much a stretch? Thought about it after riding the CR. Don't think i would seriously do it.

Sorry to hear the bars aren't that nice. Thanks for the feedback though. Has anyone tried the bars from the CR?

I make clubmans for the lightning. There are some pics floating around.

Froggy if your interested, come over this weekend. I'm going to work on two sets. We can see how it would fit on a Uly.

The CR bars are one inch at the clamp.

Yea I was wondering because a Uly fairing conversion is on my list of winter projects, just curious what it would be like, and if my helmet would be bouncing off the windshield, lol : )

I've been thinking about clubmans for a while.
I don't like the idea of using a bunch of make-shift risers though.

Hmmm.... if the CR uses 1" clamps then maybe some FatBar risers from Precision Engineering would do the trick.
That would raise them 1", which wouldn't be too bad, and might actually give more clearance around the fairing.

I'd be very interested in some Z bars that would clear the adjusters, move the riding position forward and up a bit.

steering geometry would be about the same. It would give the rider much more room. Doesn't really matter if they're behind or in front of the triple trees, as long as the geometry is about the same.

These are the bars that Trac95er gouged me on.
Work very well and are much stronger than stock bars. I think that they saved me a lot of damaged parts. They barely bent at all. I would have to replace a lot more parts if i still had the stock bars. My right indicator didn't even get a scratch on it. These are the bars.

The Trac95ker clubmans are nicely made, and have a very simple and effective riser system designed into, and built into the bars.

Just kidding, I didn't get gouged. They are very reasonably priced.

I was thinking of something that used the stock mounting plates and cleared around the triple trees.

Then you will have strange looking clubmans.

You can adjust preload with a socket and they turn from lock to lock without hitting the control pods.

Why do you say that? Maybe I'm not doing a good job describing what I have in my mind?

Love the look of Clubmans. Did the Clip on route..

Part of the reason I got rid of my stock bars were that they where a pain to adjust..

I agree with custom set you could have the best of both worlds..

The Look..
Easy adjustment..

i can't speak for all of us that have done the spacer thing, but i can speak for myself. the homemade riser was done as a test run before i sunk the money into an official riser and good adjustable clubmans. i would highly recommend trying that set-up before sinking more money into a set-up you may not like. as far as not being rigid, i would have to disagree(have you ever felt a set of crossroads? not rigid at all)the set-up is very rigid.

my set-up, bars and all parts needed were less than $30. a small price to pay for something you may not like. clubmans put you in a very aggressive position( even more than clipons) well worth a trial before full commitment.

Technically, my bars are not Clubmans. The bars I make are made to your specs along with what the bike will allow.

http://www.streetbikerider.com/h-bodyparts/bikemas ter/pr-bodyparts-handlebars-bikemaster-handlebars- clubman.htm

And it was such a sweet deal too... I should get them sometime next week. I'll post up pics of the install.

no they wont unless you add some spacers to make them clamp a few inches above the normal clamp.

The set I ordered was advertised to fit ournd the tree, but unfortunatley it wasn't. The sweep and set back on these bars are also odd.
