there is an empty electrical plug between the two headlights in the bezel. What is it for and do I need to go back in and put it back in the whole? Thanks.

It's for a parking lamp that is mandatory in Europe. It's not used in the U.S.. The circuit does work though and you can put a bulb in it if you like.

it's a parking lamp socket, only used in europe and canada. some people like to throw a colored bulb in for effect at night.

Don't think it's for Canada. It's not on mine.

But what is the o/w wire for? On the diagram it looks like it says HID but I can't find any explanation of that.

Since when is Canada part of Europe? :P

You guys get the exact same bikes as us, except yours come with a funny accent. : )

I don't remember the colors of each wire, but you got low beam, high, eurolight/accessory, and ground. Ground is black.

Here is my guess off the top my head, been a while since I spliced into there.
Ground - Black,
High - White
Accessory - W/O
Yellow - Low beam.

Actually we, Canada, don't get the same bike as the US. I think it may be the headlight on all the time thing but after that I don't really know.

What I do know, or think I know, is that we can't just import a US model in without a huge tariff because it's not designated for Canada.

It also means we can state whatever we want on resale (to beat the sales tax but that's dishonest) since the bike is not registered on their system.

Part 4 of the VIN is the market designation, that may be what we're actually discussing.

The lamp, a normal 164, is Harley-Davidson P/N 53436-97 and can be found on page 156 and 157 of the 2009 XB parts manual for the 12X/12XT/12XP

That's what you get when a 53 year old squints at a wiring diagram.

The '03 parts book uses different numbers and doesn't show the parts.

It does show different p/n for Canada vs Europe vs US, etc.

Thanks for clearing that up.}

Switch the yellow wire with the W/O, have both headlights on at once. Best darn thing I have done to my bike, but I just can't figure out why oncoming cars keep flashing their hi beams at me, seems to have started when I switched the wires.
