So I was on the longboard forum and came across this thread where the poster was considering a Buell.

I was reading all these posts by people that didn't seem to own let alone ever have ridden a Buell so was about to chime in w/my own over 3 years of ownership experience. Then I came across Post #6 and decided it just wasn't worth the hassle of a flame war.

Pity, I wonder how many other people have been driven away from posting useful information due to hatin.'

I guess that should be expected in a longboarding forum. Seriously, who asks for motorcycle advice there??

That thread wasn't as bad as some personal encounters I have had with morons. I have never told somebody their bike is a POS. Those who ride are A.O.K. to me (unless they are Chromosexuals.....wanna be bikers). I almost had a good friend convinced to buy a Buell until his son told him Buells are a POS! I asked him if his son ever rode a Buell? Answer: No. My cousin visited (owns an R-6) and asked why I didn't buy an R-6.....Duh....cause I buy Buells! He asked why they are so slow and answered his own question by summing it up that water cooling made the difference. I said, "yep, that must be the reason, lets see what these things will do light to light." I may have bitten off more than I can chew....dunno, don't care. Anybody ever pit an XB12S against 600cc repliracer?

You might've. According to the magazines, modern 600s are running in the 10's at the 1/4 mile dragstrip (in the hands of experienced riders)...

Remember when it took at least an 1100 to run into the 10's?? Geez!!

Not a bad thread. It only had one guy with obviously water on the brain, that knows nothing about Buells. But he did have good recommendations for beginner bikes.

Does Salt Water Kill Brain Cells? : )

In the 1/4, I know he'll kick my ass. I'm talking light to light, city block type stuff. At the Laughlin river run, they had an 1/8 mile drag set up (lights, times and all). It was a fun little gig for $2 a run. I kept lining up next to a Hyabusa and consistently tore him up until the last few car lengths. Rider??? Bike??? I dunno. The guy seemed to ride well. There were some 6's there that day, but, never were able to line up next to them.

Teddagreek,

Nah, never hit the ditch. I enjoy rollin' around the 'hood and at the park. Boring, but I always find it pretty relaxing.

My 12R will take a modern 600I4 down to the last couple hundred feet in the 1/4. My launch was horrible and I still put car lengths on the R6 that I raced, and you gotta figure joe six pack on the R6 ain't no pro at launching either. Thats where we can get them with our big twin is out of the hole, if we can get off the line well enough, it will be very hard for them to catch up. Stop light to stop light, don't even worry, by the time he makes the next red light, you'll have had time to stop and get a drink.

Roger that Srwitt...I'm gonna give it a whirl even though our Buells aren't water cooled.... Sheesh, I'm related to some dopes! The Joe six-pac thing is painfully accurate and funny!

Anybody ever pit an XB12S against 600cc repliracer?

Ken, at one time I owned a 2006 R6 and my 04 XB12R. I like them both. I could never get the XB to match the R6 in 1/4 mile time. I am only a 150 lbs so its hard to keep the front end on the ground when riding the XB. That is the fun part. My 2 cents the Buell is the best cornering bike I have ever ridden.

R6 and drag racing?

HUH?

Roadracing, the R6 has definite advantages - power especially but drag racing? Kinda like bringing a cold bean salad to a chili cook-off. Wrong contest.

The R6 and XB are usually raced in different classes anyways.

People typically think in Black-and-White terms. They're usually not capable of understanding context, nor the implications of context.

All my japbike friends rib me for rolling a Buell. I just tell them, "It's the best street bike made." And leave it at that.

And most convert when they get a little street seat time. Most of the time, the guy rippin' Buell has never ridden one, or they've ridden a Blast, or an XB with low tire pressure and unset suspension.

You can lead the jackass to water, but you can't make him drink.

I agree with Jos, if you are a street rider that likes to rail, the Buells are gravy on the biscuits. I have no problem outrunning anything from 600's up to Busa's when the going gets twistie. All the guys I ride with that ride metrics think I'm crazy for railing the way I do, and there jaws just drop when I tell them thats a relaxed pace for the Buell, not so much for me, but I can easily outrun them with out overriding the bikes and my own capability.

Just my .02 Who gives a crap if a R6 GSXR6 .... is faster, you look like every other a$$hat i see layed out on the side of the road every weekend. And your bike SOUNDS LIKE SHIT. I know my bike looks better, handles better, Has the best design/function out there, and draws a crap ton more attention.

But it is true that an XB will take most bikes off the line. Rider is a part of that also.

I would never rip on somebodys bike. I say buy either what you like or what you can afford. Or a combination of the two. When I got my X.B. everybody wanted to know why I didn't get a R6 or gixxer like everybody else. Guess I'm not everybody else. Respect all-fear none.

"If I cared to want an R6 or R1 or Busa what would it matter to you what the decision process was I got there to it.... Now if I own a Buell, I should get the same courtesy. You can tell me what bike to buy when you pay for it. Otherwise, buggar off already. "

My grumpy response to people that get holier than thou with their bike selection and diss mine.
