Hey all. Due for my 5k service(and only 1500 overdue, whoops). There are 3 Buell shops I'm aware of in the general Houston area Mancuso 290, Mancuso 610N, and Angleton off 288S. Had Angleton perform my 1k service but I wasn't too happy due to missing body washers and tank cover bolts so loose I lost one. Anyone have service experience good or bad w/either of the Mancuso shops? Any other recommendations other than DIY? I own a manual, can change oil, etc. but not interested in fooling w/the primary. Primary is easy too. Only hard thing on the bike is the fork oil. | ||

Yea changing the primary oil is probably easier than changing engine oil. Service manual spells it out nicely. I can't even imagine paying someone to do that work... | ||

It's the primary adjustment I'm not too keen on. Rather have an expert I can hold accountable do it. Nels | ||

there is a shop off of 59 between belt way 8 and I 6 I live close to 290 so I take my bike there. My job at work is to supervise 5 Trucks and make sure they have the proper matins done. every time I pick a truck up from a shop (any shop) I check every thing they touch or could of touched. Almost every time I find something they did not put back on or did not do or tighten. I have only taken my bike to the 290 shop 2 times one for the 1000 mil. money grab and my horn and brake light stopped working .both times I found something the did not do properly. The best thing to do is learn to do it your self. They go to school to learn to work on bikes and don't get it right so what do u have to lose. then the only person you can blame is your self. | ||

I had my 1k done at Mancuso 290 where I bought my bike and the 5k done at Mancuso 610 and I guess they were ok for routine servicing. But I'd also been to both for various problems on the bike and they both kinda sucked when it came to that. So much so, that I'll probly try and do the 10k myself...I've been leaning to more towards the "screw the dealership, I can do this work myself" side. Especially since the warranty is only good for so long, and after that I'd like to avoid paying people to work my bike as much as possible. and I have no problem buying tools... | ||

Am I the only one who has ridden 33,000 miles and had a bike showing no signs of needing the primary adjusted? I am about to change the Formula + today and I will be checking the chain measurements again. I expect no problems because it is still quiet and working smoothly. | ||

Barnyard & Theirishbueller, Thanks for the reply. Pretty much what I was afraid of re: the Mancuso's. What an endorsement of our dealer service. I didn't buy a bike so I HAD to perform my own service to have it done right. Kinda makes it a little less accessible to folks that are not mechanically inclined at all but still would like to get into it. I've modified cars and enjoy working on things but sometimes just don't have the time. <sigh> Nels | ||

Etennuly, You may not have needed to adjust the primary but I'm guessing you may have still checked at recommended intervals. Or perhaps you have more faith than I.  Nels | ||

Independence HD in College Station may be a place to check out, they sell Buell. I have no experience with them or their mechanical repair records. Also the HD dealership in Conroe used to sell Buell. They don't anymore, however, one of their technicians rides Buell. Call and verify this with them, I think his name is Red (has a long red beard). They may be able to do the work for ya. | ||

Independence HD Ha Ha That place is A XXXXing Joke!! My girlfriend goes to school up there so I ride up there every other weekend or so. I've stop there a time or two. I'm surprised that they even know what a XB is. I don't know about there tec's but if they are 2x smarter than the rest of them I don't think I could trust them to give me correct change. If you do go there you will be invited to there Friday night ride to the drive in. WOW!! To end on a good note every time I've stopped in there is a hot chick working. Not very smart but Hot. |
