doing 5mph in the lot of my apt. building. The driveway was coned off because of paint or some such nonsense. Me, not paying attention, tried to make a 90 degree turn and slooowly tipped. When I knew I could'nt stop it I just stepped off the bike. Some pics:

Besides replacing Brake and Peg, I don't see any other damage/wear. Guess that's a good thing.

Framepucks + sliders = saved bike! Looks like you got off lucky. Get some sliders on there, look at that little knick from small slide, just imagine the damage if the bike was really moving. But yea the bikes are tanks, it was a good week if my Uly didn't hit the ground : )

Take brake lever off. Find a solid place where you can put it down so that the new curve is facing up. Make sure it has room to move out and, preferably, on a smooth surface. Give it a couple of love taps with a hammer on the curve until it is back to the right curve.

Save a couple of bucks.

You needed to sand and polish those pipes anyway.

I'm probably going to do it next week. There's a corner I keep missing the rhythm on.

Er... save $50. Outrageous price for such a crappy piece. I had to replace mine this past weekend due to a tipover. Snapped it clean off.

I don't think your supposed to bend aluminum back once it's been bent - it gets very weak and prone to breaking.

I think you should leave it curved. Very Rococo.

G234 - You might want pull your hand lever off and check to see that it's not cracked where you can't see it.
Mine tipped over and cracked the lever where it sits in the bracket.
It's held in by that pivot bolt and takes 5 seconds to pull it off.

Ouch! Been there, done that almost in the exact manner you described! My brake level looked just like yours. $50 for the new one, yup.

Tip: take a Sharpie black pen for a good temporary repainting of the swingarm gash. Then put on some axle sliders.

It just happened to me tonight at a stop sign. My husband took off ahead of me and I stopped myself realizing I didn't pay attention to the traffic. Grabbed by break lost my balance and down it went. I hopped off the bike and let it fall. Hubby didn't realize what had happened and I ended up trying to pick that 400lb bike up by myself with, thank goodness, success and with no help from the shite sitting behind me in their car. Same damage occurred as yours. At least I wasn't in the middle of traffic. My adrenalin went through the roof, but I got back on the bike and rode it back to the house to assess the damage.

Well last spring I lost it on black ice. I was fine and everything, a guy hopped out of his truck to help me, not sure where he came from. I had the bike almost back up when he got to me. I told him i was ok and thanked him stopping. Kept riding to work with a bruised ass.

Thanks for the advice and the stories. Guess my ego has healed, now that I know I'm not the only one. When I was standing there, getting my bearings, some folks (not very neighborly) drove past and around me and the bike! Jeez...

I tried the whole re-bending thing, but the levers range of motion was off. It wouldnt travel right. Didnt want to risk it so I got new parts.

Total cost: $77 clams for the Lever and Peg

Eh, mebe it's sorta rude to expect it... but when I see someone in distress (however mild) I stop and help, unless someone else is already assisting. In this particular situation, it would have also saved me time to help the lady with the bike, rather than just wait for her to figure out how to solo-heft it.

Maybe its not totally reasonable to expect people to be polite and helpful, but maybe it should be.

Well, there are blue laws on the books that require you to assist when there is an emergency. People just don't care and prosecuting someone for not assisting is not going to happen. I would help someone because that is how I was raised

Myself and two other guys helped a woman who ran out of gas at Wal-Mart today. She ran out right in the entrance to the store. Once we got her out of the way She said She was going to go in to purchase a gas can, then walk over to the pumps to get enough gas to move the car. I told her not to bother with that, and we pushed her the whole way across the parking lot to the gas pump.

No one was harmed in this random act of kindness....
