I have a dilemma.

I was trying to adjust the rear shock rebound on the City X and it was frozen in place. I tried turning it both in and out and it wasnt going. So I tried with a little more force and SNAP.

I broke the adjuster screw so now it just spins freely but doesnt do anything.

So is there a way to rebuild these things or do I need to go out a buy a new shock. If I have to pick up a new shock, will a shock from a TT work for a city X or do I specifically need to get a shock for a city X?

It being a showa shock, it can be rebuilt...
the trouble is that replacement parts are
very difficult to locate

I recently rebuilt a 916 front end, and a centering bushing failed...
I spent a few days trying to locate the part, without luck so I just ended up making one...

And parts are supposed to be easier to come by for forks too...

You can try to find the part, but it may be easier to just get a new shock, or maybe a penske one...

Call Race-Tech. I've used their products many times on my Moto-X bikes. That rebound screw may be a bit involved to replace. To my memory, the screw is tapered and moves a rod within the shock rod that controls a low speed bleed located in the shock piston.....take this with a grain of salt. Been a long time since I rebuilt a Showa Shock. Here's the number. Probably have to send it in for service. Here's the Ph# 951.279.6655

are you refer to the rebound adjuster screws on the left side of the shock? I believe there is a screw on the right side that will just spin if you break it free.

Yes there is a screw on the right side that is just a plug (supposedly) which is silver in color.

I am talking specifically about the rebound adjuster screw on the left side (black in color)

I find it slightly ironic that the other guy with the same problem has an 05 city X as well. Did Buell change something on those shocks for the City X?

I had the same thing happen on my '05 city-X.
I think it was due to all the salt used on the roads that winter as we had alot of snow, and I had no choice but to ride since I didn't have a 4-wheeler at the time.
I assumed it had just corroded...

Was having a problem myself and just did a search for "rebound screw" and lo and behold, look what I find....

I have '05 CityX and the screw is jammed (I won't be trying to force it after reading these posts).

Looks like we have a pattern here.

Anyone else? what's the fix?

A City X is gonna use a stock blue shock. Same as in the S and R's...not the CG.

If you have to rebuild, just buy a new on on Ebay. I got one from an 06 S for $35.00 shipped.

Well I made a few phone calls only to find out that the rebound adjuster is one of the only parts NON-servicable on these damn shocks.

The ONLY fix is to buy a new shock-or lower unit if you can find one.

And Ebay is fresh out unless you want to choose from one of the 10 blast shocks

SO, now that there is a definite pattern here: Does anyone know why or how this happens? Does Buell know/care about the issue?

I absolutely love my Buells (yes I own multiple buells) but why does it seem that Buell is always plagued with quality control issues. One would think that a company with 50 some employees and minimal bike output would truly excel in QA/QC.

I have owned 7 Buells now and I have had issues with EVERY single one of them. I wish I didnt love the bikes so much!
