Actually I guess I'm pretty sold on a 2009 City cross XB9SX. The thing is that it doesn't look like a very good 2 up bike. Do any of you guy's ride with your ladies on the back regularly? I've had a 2006 Honda 599 and a 2001 yamaha FZ1 and she didn't complain about the comfort. How would it compare. I would just go and test ride one but I'm currently deployed to Iraq and will be buying through the military exchange program that Harley offers to deployed soldiers. I hate to buy sight unseen but the only thing that makes me hesitant is the passenger seat. What do you guys think?

if your wife is small (100-120 lbs.) you might be ok . took my wife for a ride & she didn't like it (we have a BMW for two up). so i removed buddy pegs to have a dedicated one-up bike. (i'm 5'10" -160 lbs. wife 5'6" 120 lbs)personally i think the XB-s is too small for comfortable two-up.

I've had a few passengers and no one has complained about comfort. My wife said it was'nt any more or less comfortable than my old CBR600. I have'nt weighed her lately I'm guessin 120-130ish

The XB12SS is a better two-up bike, and it has the Hero Blue colors for 2009.

Most of my riding will be solo. We live in CO so there are weekends that we take off for a day or two in the mountains. I'm 5'8" about 175 and she's 5'5" and maybe 135. I don't want to spend the money on the XB12SS. The other bike I'm considering is the Bandit 1250s but it is just too bland. It would make more sense but it's not unique or cool the way the buell is.

My girl is about 150 and it's great with us both on it. I used to ride sport bikes (R6 and Triumphs) and the Lightning is much more comfortable for her. We test rode some Firebolts first, thinking that they looked possibly like better 2-up bikes, but the seating position is more awkward, more leaned forward, and the seat to foot peg distance is less so your legs are more squished up.

She loves the Lightning for 2-up riding.

I ride an XB9S with a Select seat.

Also, what other options do I have other than the Buell Detachable Saddlebags? They block access to the pass footpegs so they won't work. I won't put them on much since they are so ugly but when we take off for a couple days saddle bags would beat making her carry a back pack (and reduce whining as well)

Thanks Andy! that gives me more piece of mind about buying without a test ride.

Hey Matthew,

I noticed you are new to the forum, check out the local "Storm" group for Colorado:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/ 194028.html?

We are always glad to have a fellow Bueller to ride with. I just started riding an '03 XB9S myself.

No problem.

Regarding the Buell saddlebags: they do not block access to the rear pegs, see pic below. The passenger's legs go in front of and over the top, works great when 2-up. I sold my set because the were smaller than what my use of bags requires. Now I use a set of Cortech bags. The Cortechs are no good for 2-up, but they are bigger...

What about the Ulysses models? XB12X and XB12XT. More comfortable on the back seat than a Road King! Oh and then you get the factory hard bags too : )

The cityx is a great bike, I will never sell mine.... nor will I ever carry a passenger or ride with the select seat. Its seattle, it rains, that seat is a direct gutter down your backside for the rain we get. and that backseat.... is holding my luggage rack. She wants to ride, she gets her own.
Probably not the answer you wanted to hear. I bet if you look hard you could find an 07 or 08 tt at 09 cityx prices.

don't count out the Ss. i have found it to be worth every penny

my wife is the only passenger that complained, but she does that on every bike that's NOT a goldwing

other hotties describe it as "cool" "weird" "bitchin" and (1st time on a bike) "WAAAAY too much fun!"

Buell: the longer you wait, the more you'll wish you hadn't waited so long....

Cityxslicker does like to bash the Select seat. :-p

Unless you ride in a lot if rain, it's the way to go. Undoubtedly not the seat for him, but great for many many others.

On a side note, love that even your profile pic shows the bike in rain!

My wife indicated about 30 minutes on the back of my 9sx was about as many as she was interested in. She is little, I am awfully big. If I were smaller it would work better.

The XT is an AWFULLY nice bike for where you are and what you want to do. If I were doing it again, and in spite of the fact that I LOVE my 9sx, I would get an XT.

I don't think a sportbike is a touring bike.
I think a sportbike is exactly what the name
implies.Maybe you should look at the Goldwings or similiar type TOURING bikes. If you have a passenger on a Buell then you can't add bags.Look at your manual for Gross vehicle weights. When you exceed those numbers the bike becomes VERY unstable.

Boliver, I like how you put TOURING in caps! It's adorable. I don't think you are getting the picture. I don't want a TOURING bike. If you have read my posts you can see that my previous bikes have been a Honda 599 and a Yamaha FZ1. I am aware of the difference in a TOURING bike and a sport bike. I don't want a TOURING bike or a sport bike I want a naked street-fighter and was wondering how the passenger accommodations are on the City Cross and what the luggage options are. 23 yr old Army Cav Scout on a goldwind?

To everyone else, thank you for the input you have been really helpful and informative. If you think of anything else let me know. I'll let you guys know what I decide soon. If I can get the price I want I should be buying soon. To bad I can't ride it until I get back to the states

Gunguy,Well if you read your first post it says:What do you guys think? Now I took that for a general question to all. That is why I put my two cents worth out there.I stand by that. If you plan on doing much doubles riding I think you will not like it.I also bet she really won't be comfortable much longer than 30 mins.
The fact that you thought my caps was
"adorable" is kinda odd. Here in Oklahoma, men do not use that term.To each his own though.Good luck with that vocabulary in the services.
Thanks for your time served.
