'06 XB9SX I changed my front pads today. Everything came off fine and went back together fine, with multiple exceptions (of course). 1. The pad retaining bolt head stripped when I was putting it back in. I am figuring that is not much of a problem, right now, seeing as the bolt is all the way in. How do I get it out now? 2. I have no front brakes at all now. Lever goes all the way to the grip. I bled the brakes multiple times and still get no action from them. I rode around the block a few times and get nothing. 3. When I was going to bleed it once again; one of the screws on the master cylinder cover stripped and now I can't get it out. 4. I forgot to put the heat shims back in, but cannot take the pads back out do to problem #1 stated above. Will it cause a problem to ride without them when I get all these problems fixed? Before I screw up anything else; can someone PLEASE help me? |

1)How did you strip the threads? Pretty simply installation. 2)You don't have to bleed the brakes for a pad change. 3)The master cylinder cover screws are JIC not Phillips. 4)The anti-squeal shims are not a necessity. This info is worth what you paid for it because I ride Tubers. |

1.( the head of the bolt is rounded off?) and go to sears and get the striped bolt drill bit remover kit. 2. The bolt probly went in to far because you cranked on it hence the stripped bolt. probly blocking the fluid flow or just holding the cylinders in and not allowing them to press out. GET A TORQUE WRENCH>>> 3. See no 1. 4. fixed with the Stripped bolt remover kit. |

Relax have a beer take a step back, solve each issue one by one.. I'd get the bolt out and replace it. Its going to be a whole lot easier now than later.. Same goes for the cover screws.. Like rip said get bolt remover, Sears has them.. Torque Wrench and Manual if you don't have one already.. I'd get one that show Newtons I find it easier than a standard.. Bleeding the brakes can be a bear on these especially if you got a line full of air.. I broke down and bought a Mity pump my brake are crazy solid. Some teflon tape on the bleeders out threads helps. Search the site for hendricks bleeding method he used a Catheter syringe and tubing to get a perfect bleed.. Good luck... |
