I have had a few people say that I should get a new helmet since my accident on Sunday. I am told that since it is fiberglass one decent impact affects the whole helmet and that one more hit and it could shatter. I dont disagree with the people that have told me this but I just want to get more opinions.  | ||

I've heard that to, seems to make sense. I wouldn't taker any chanses with the ol' noggin. I'd hate to read a post from someone saying that you shoulda got a new helmet. Hope you made it out o.k. from the accadent. | ||

Its not actually the fiberglass that is the problem. It is the layer of foam that compresses to absorb impact. When you have an accident the area that is hit compresses that foam. If you were to take another hit in that spot it would not protect you well. Its definetely time for a new helmet. Sorry bout your accident man. | ||

Replace it. A drop from a little over waist high damages the inside, or so I have read. Helmet making contact with pavement = immediate replacement which is cheap considering the alternative | ||

I would replace it. +1 to what everyone here has said. Helmets are designed to crush/deform on impact, absorbing some of the energy in the process. The structural integrity has likely been compromised. Trick is that you dont know how much protection you're really getting on that next fall. I hope you replace it. Be safe. | ||

Shelf Trophy - yep. Leave it where it can be seen, you'll have a story to tell. - and what THEY ^ said about the liner being "mashed" rather than the shell. It did it's job. Congrats on NOT getting hurt any worse yourself!! | ||

An experiment: styrofoam coffee cup, pinch it hard. Watch it come back to original shape... or not. It did it's job. Trophy it as suggested. Be thankful for no sever injuries and thankful for end of season sales. | ||

I don't know your detail situation, but if you have collision/comprehensive insurance you should be including ALL of your losses, including your riding gear, in your claim. Husky | ||

Unlike football helmets that are designed to take repeated abuse, motorcycle helmets are not designed this way from what I've been told. One and done they say. I've been told if you were to be standing up with your helmet in hand by your side, if dropped on any hard surface you've compromised the integrity of the helmet. Don't know the truth to this but when I ate the pavement some time ago I took no chances and bought a new one. | ||

As others have mentioned, helmets are "single use" items. One crash, and they are done. | ||

One hit (I don't even check them when I fly) and I'd not use the helmet. One Badwebber, when his helmet was dropped by security personnel demanded and got a replacement. The EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) is good for ONE COMPRESSION. After 5 years they make great table lamps. . . . But . . I confess that I get attached to helmets and tend to keep wearing them. In fact . . . I'm about due. | ||
