Just curious if anyone has had the opportunity to test a micron against the buell race pipe. I have an 05 cityx that came with the open airbox mod, race ecm and buell race exhaust. It has absolutely no bottom end, it does come on strong at about 4,500 all the way to red. I know it won't compare to my 03 xb12r I had a few years ago, but damn I thought i would have something on the bottom, it feels like a inline 600 to me down low.

Check the threads on the comparisons that Al Lighton/American Sportbike did under pretty controlled conditions. Should be in there in detail.

well the micron is a full system. the race exhaust from buell is just a muffler, right?

I have seen the shootout and actually have it saved on my desk top. However I was hoping for real life seat of the pants comparison. It does looks as though the micron doesn't have the dip that the buell race can has. However it is $800 and if the xb9 is just a pip squeak down low then I won't bother.

Micron appears to be a high-rpm system ... Ya might wanna compare each of the others to see which set-up will give you the best low/midrange power.

I LOVE the Micron! Comes on strong as soon as I twist the throttle.

I think the Micron has been discontinued for a few months now - meaning that for either the Micron or the Buell Race pipe, you're heading for eBay.

One thing the race pipe/intake/ecm had going for it was true "plug and play"

I have plenty of Micron's in stock. Bought every one I could find when they announced they were ceasing production. Should have enough to last a few months. But when they're gone, there will be no more.

I've got the '03 9R. I just try to keep it at 4000+, whatever gear it takes to keep it there. Wouldn't mind a 6 speed but there you go.

Technique is cheaper than aftermarket.

Not wanting to sound smarmy, every bike's different. You know what you need, it just sounded like a fairly narrow problem and maybe technique would cover it.

As having experience with both the race pipe and Micron on a XB12, i say get the micron. Looks awesome, sounds awesome, does much better in seat of the pants and on the dyno. No mid range dip.

So did micron go belly up? Or did they just stop making the pipe for the buell? Still haven't gotten a definite answer as to whether or not the micron will help the horrible bottom end of the 984cc motor. It just seems so gutless down low.

Micon does not make motorcycle exhausts anymore. Their parent company still makes car exhausts

I'll see if I can help. I have the Micron on my XB9R race bike. The previous season I was running the Race Kit exhaust. First and foremost, if you buy the Micron, you better get a tuner to go with it! If not, you will not get the full benefit from this system. The fueling with the Race ECM is all wrong for this pipe. I got the Daytona Twintec from Hal's, but the Direct Link works also.

Once properly dyno tuned the Micron system puts the Race Kit to shame across the board. You will pick up hp and torque everywhere, especially up top. There will still be a slight dip below 4000rpm, but it is not quite as noticeable. I was able to get 80hp/60ftlbs to the ground on the dyno at Hal's and the only thing I have done to the bike is the exhaust and tuner. The other benefit of this setup is a much smoother throttle response. The throttle pickup is not like a light switch any more. That alone makes a huge difference in slower corners. I would definitely recommend the Micron!

I hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask.

He means the Daytona Twintec box that hooks into the ECM and changes the fuel injection. With that exhaust, the bike needs more fuel than what he was getting with the race kit.

Sorry, shoulda been more specific. It's basically like a Power Commander for Buell's.

Jonnyrotton - look at the curves in the exhaust shootout and you will be able to see the improvement the micron has over the other pipes with the direct link map.

For what its worth, Here is a dyno of my bike when i recently had the drummer removed and switched to a Micron. 06 SS with Open airbox, race ecm, K&N filter.

I need to look it up, i got the dyno from my Uly somewhere, same setup but with race pipe.
