The tail bag is nice... I like it very much!

It wasn`t mounted properly at the time, but good enough for the pics : )

I also added a few pics of my Sat morning ride on Angeles Crest Highway... yes, it was great up until the incident........................... : (

Still waiting on the license plate from the DMV : )

OOPS, forgot about the incident:

Cops suck! they stop anybody for anything on ACH... we were riding mellow and slow (cose we knew cops were up there), but it still wasn`t enough... oh well...

hey, you have the 8 piston caliper! how much difference does that make? did you ride alot with the 6 piston one? just wondering?

I did not ride the 6 piston caliper enough to be able to tell the diff... it was only a test ride in stop and go traffic.

However, all I can say is that the 8 piston caliper is violent... Because of the long lever travel before the brakes start biting, I had some troubles modulating the brake at first, but now that I am used to it I like it very much. In emergency situations it actually helps loads the front suspension before applying heavy braking force, which is a good thing... overall, I am very happy with it.

What did they write you up for? We were up there on Sunday for the every other month SCAB ride. Got lucky as there were very little police up there that we noticed.

Big crackdown on ACH recently... I heard that out of 12 motorcycle fatalities in LA county since the beginning of the year, 8 of them were on ACH, so their plan is to stop everybody on bikes so no-one will ride that highway anymore... it sucks. Last Sat there were very few bikes up there because everybody avoids that road now... I guess I won`t be back there for a while either.

We got pulled over for speed... we saw like 3 cops going up and no problem, as I said, we knew they were there so we were riding mellow... the problem is that when you go down, you get to a point where the limit goes from 55mph to 45... and of course the cop was hidden a few feet after the sign... so we were going about 60mph (which really feels mellow in that part of the road), did not notice the sign, and bam, we got busted... he tells me he clocked me at 64mph in the middle of the downhill straight away, after the 45mph sign... he says that he asked 3 of us (there was a guy we did not know on our tail) to pull over, but only us two stopped, and he mentioned that usually he would go after the guy that doesn`t stop, but "this time he decided to stop for us"... pffffffffff... so after he tells us all that, we feel confident the guy;s going to be cool right... both tickets were for 70mph in a 45... we were like WTF?!?! per his own words, he clocked us at 64mph... where did the 70mph come from? "hmmm you accelerated even more after I clocked you"... I thought bullshit! I don`t think I had seen 70mph all day long in the twisties and I get a ticket for it?

Depending on the amount, I may do a trial by declaration...

I would fight that just on principle. Yeah I noticed the 45 MPH signs the last few times I have been up there. I bet they did that just to setup speed traps.

There have been a lot of accidents up where I live in the San Bernardino Mtns. both auto and motorcycle.

I have not noticed a build up of police presence but have seen postings on local message boards up here that they are stepping up their presence to catch speeders. It is still 55 on most of the mtn roads so the 38/18/138/330 are still good.

If you can get the cop to admit to clocking you at 64 but writing you up at 70 it might at least allow you a reduced fine.

Why's Mr Policeman giving the white bike a ticket? It doesn't look very fast.

Thanks Robert!

Krassh: yeah, that's what I plan to do... let's see how much the ticket it first... if it`s around $200 I`ll just pay it and be done with it... no worth my time... if it's more, I`ll try the trial by declaration option.

Quote from Hwyranger over in the 1125R section. In reference to pic you posted of the CHP officer.

"Officer Gonzalez. I worked in that office for 5yrs. I know him pretty well."

Ahhh - I see you got to meet Officer Stout!

Not only is he kinda a hard-ass, he's also a Buell owner so bluffing doesn't work: "honest officer, I didn't know the pipe wasn't street legal."

Welcome to DOUBLE FINE ZONES and the Angeles Crest.

We try to avoid it on weekends because it's easy money with all the bike traffic and HEAVILY patrolled.

Bummer

that was not Officer Stout. Yeah, he is a big Buell guy (tubers, not XB) along with the other 20+ bikes he owns. He has forgotten more about motorcycles than most of us will ever know.

I know it sux being pulled over when not really going "too fast." As you found out, even riding just "slightly" over the limit can be expensive - not stunting or craziness, just being a few quicker than the posted limit.

The Crest has gotten so deadly in the past decade that I'm surprised there isn't MORE enforcement out there.

We don't call it the "riding season" any longer, it's the "killing season."

I can't blame the police since I know people who have had to commute "over the hill" and it HAS gotten really bad. I know that the local residents and commuters DO write and call their local representatives and DO call the police and DO call the media.

We do a bunch of group and solo rides one evening every week. Usually it's up to Newcomb's and last night went to Wrightwood. Weekdays are nice, weekends are squidfests. I just avoid weekends.

Also, I no longer encourage rational riding on the mountain roads because I'm always looking for cheap salvage parts for my racebikes and the insurance companies are always looking to sell the "leftovers" as salvage. Good thing for the racers that we have a constant supply of low-mileage used parts.

Heck, we watched a helo medevac last year and it was an idiot on a white XB9 that we saw ROCKETING through the hills - doing crazy unsafe passing. No skill, no common sense... idiotic. When I saw the bike wadded into the K-rail at AFH/Upper big tujunga, I called Glendale, Lancaster, Bartels and California the moment I got home and told them to contact me AS SOON as they were approached by an insurance company since I was needing a second engine and some spares.

Even just doing speed limt plus a couple CAN get you pulled over - so we always "keep it legal." Even if you're not street racing, you can still get "popped."

Meanwhile, the street racers will keep us supplied with stuff.

Thanks Slaughter, I agree with everything... we were over the limit and I can`t really contest that. I just wished they focused more on the real squids out there (like you mentioned above), as opposed to the peeps like us who really were riding safe (no passing in double yellow ever, no dragging knees, nothing unsafe really), and just wanted to have a nice ride up and down the mountain.

Also, don`t tell me you clocked me at 64mph and write me up for 70! Especially after you tell us you would usually let us go, and go after the guys that try to escape... He saw that we stopped right away, we were really cooperative, he even was joking around with us and checking out our bikes... then he goes to his bike and comes back with that 25mph over ticket and it just felt like a bad beat hehehe...

Anyway, thanks again for the feedback... let's see what happens...

I re-read my "rant" and didn't really mean to direct it at you (sometimes the written word comes out with the wrong emphasis)

The enforcement is pretty strict - and while the Crest is an awesome ride, the wreckage has really gotten bad.

Why don't you meet us up at Newcomb's next Thursday - we're up there about 5:30 - no later than 6:00. It's a mixed group - sportbikes, dual sports, a couple baggers. Pretty laid back.

I would take that to court. Ask him which bike he clocked? He can't make up numbers. You probably have a good case for dismissal, but it has been my experience that the judge won't listen to me. You need a lawyer to be listened to and that cost more than the ticket. The system is setup to favor them, not us.

Yep - we're pretty much at Newcomb's every Thursday about the same time.

PM me your email address, I'll put you on the weekly announcement.

We started this weekly ride in our Palmdale-based mob here at work... and it got a few folks more - but some of you folks on the other side of the hill have been able to meet up with us at Newcomb's. Newcomb's is a good half-way stop for both groups.
