I'm doing a couple of trackdays in the UK next month and one has a strict noise limit of 102db. My XB9r trackbike is NOISY. I'm running a full race Remus pipe with K+N and no snorkle. Can anyone tell me what level of noise I'm making. Don't tell me to get it tested because we don't take noise seriously here in Ireland (you can't hear bikes above the wind) so we don't have any noise testing available.}

Check out the XB Exhaust Shootout Test results and see if any of those bikes are similar to your set-up. If I remember correctly, the loudest measured db was somewhere around 103-104db. That might give you a ball park idea of what your bike is making.

102 is pretty loud.

Google "decibel comparison" and try to figure out where you are.

The one I looked at shows bikes at 100. There's quite a jump to 102 since decibels are not measured in a linear fashion.

3 decibels is equal to doubling the volume if i'm not mistaken. (103 dB is twice as loud as 100 dB)

Actually the quietest in the test was the stock XB9 at 113 db. The quietest with an aftermarket exhaust was Buell race exhaust at 120db then the Drummer SS at 121 db. Good luck getting to 102db!

My XB12R (bone stock) makes 88dB at idle (noise meter 50cm from tip, 45 degree angle, like at the inspection station), 93dB @ 2k RPM and 100dB @ 3K RPM. With the power valve open- 89-90 idle, 94 @2K RPM, 102dB @ 3k RPM.

Thanks for all the data guys its just what I was looking for. It looks like I have a problem, as I feared. I'm going to try fitting the baffle plates and remapping the ECM and keep my fingers crossed, its a long way to go only to find you cant take part because of a noisy bike.

Where is the noise being measured? At SCCA solo Events we measure it at 50ft from track centerline. The numbers being posted here from the exhaust shootout were taken near the tip. There will be a big difference...
