I pulled the primary cover and was in the process of checking the front sprocket torque. I was unaware that I need that link to lock the sprockets. Is there any way to do this without the HD tool? I recently developed a vibration and have checked out quite a few things and the big nut was next....help please!

I searched further in the KV and found some specs on the tool...I'll give it a shot.

Looks like one of those screwdriver blades from those almost useless multi kits might work in there.

A) What are the symptoms of a loose nut?
B) Al from American Sport Bike sells that tool.

I have used a block of wood before with about 50 percent success. I finally got the tool Al sells. Works great.

You can stuff a rag or towel between the sprocket and chain to stop it from moving. But buying the tool from Al is probably the best thing to do.

I had some 3/16 x 1 1/4 flatstock that I made one about 4 1/4" long out of. It worked fine for me.

I had some noise and vibrations developing and just wanted to make peace with myself that this nut was good to go. The nut backed off pretty easy...not real easy but it wasn't no 240 ft/lbs either. I cleaned it and the threads real good and a couple drops of red deathlocker and I hope all is well. I haven't buttoned it up and tried it out yet...I'll let you know.

I am glad I got into this because at least I know the bike better now..I was apprehensive but it isn't bad at all.

My first "tool" was a parking brake spreader from a full size Chevy truck ground down to fit.

I now use a custom piece of aluminum from a fellow badwebber.

WOW....what a difference that this 1 hour and change made to the bike. I think I am just being anal about the vibration because it is still there, though not as noticeable. I may be becoming one with the bike and am starting to pick it apart...but I will stop, I promise and just keep riding. I chose to switch to Amsoil this time and it made a world of difference in the way the bike sounds and shifts....SMOOTH! Just thought I would post about how I made out.
