One of my frame pucks is starting to come unglued. What have ya'll used to stick them back on? Would I be correct to assume I want an epoxy that doesn't dry hard? | ||

if it were me id just buy another one. Well I did not install these, but it looks like the glue is failing, but not from poor installation. It's not coming unstuck from the frame or the puck, but it's stretching like bubble gum. Is the glue that comes with them black? Assuming the glue is just breaking down, why would I want to use the same glue? | ||

Probably stick it back on with RTV Black. You want to be able to peel it off again if it ever becomes damaged, so I wouldn't try anything more permanent. | ||

Jaimec, I have to disagree. Those pucks need to be on really good. When I had my "incident" my left frame puck took a lot of abuse. It got pushed back a good 3/4 of an inch. If the bike didn't end up sliding into a ditch, I am pretty sure it would have come off. What ever you use, make sure it can handle serious heat. On a really hot day I can wiggle my pucks. | ||

IIRC factory glue is clear to yellow, not black. | ||

I would replace it with a new one (and apply it using the included instructions). I would guess if it was not factory installed, it was probably not installed/located correctly which is causing it to come away from the frame. | ||

The instructions are quite clear. Make sure the frame area is completely CLEAN. Wipe it down with alcohol or mineral spirits and let it dry completely. The puck needs to be applied when the ambient temperatures are 75 degrees or higher or the adhesive will not cure properly. I bought mine in the winter and waited till late Spring to install it because I don't have a heated garage. When installed properly, they hold like iron BUT you don't want to reinstall it with something "permanent" because when (if) the time comes to replace them, you want to be able to completely remove them too (and you do that with a heat gun or blow dryer, so obviously frame heat is not a big issue). I suggested RTV because (as the name implies) it is "Room Temperature Vulcanization." It'll cure at 75 degrees. Since I used to use it as a liquid gasket material when I did the valves on my old K100, I'm assuming engine heat isn't an issue with it either. But I'm NOT a mechanic by any means. The good thing about BadWeb is that someone far more knowledgeable will chime in eventually. | ||

i pulled it off and it looks like black electrical tape, but sticky on both sides. Very stretchy stuff also. Water had started collecting underneath and causing it to come off. Where is a good place to get the factory pucks for an 05 xb? | ||

IIRC factory glue is clear to yellow, not black. Do the pucks sold at americansportbike.com come with this yellow glue? I'm thinking i'm going to get the same pucks with this black sticky stuff on the back if I order online. If that's the case, then i'd rather just reglue these myself. | ||

American Sport Bike resells the OEM pucks if I recall correctly. | ||

how about double-sided (foam) tape ? can be had almost anywhere , has fantastic "stick" (on non porous surfaces) & while sometimes difficult, can be removed. | ||

I used emblem tape from the auto parts store. 3m foam tape would rip to easily and is thicker than i'd like. I went ahead and painted them to match my air box while I had them off. |
