I'm do for a primary oil change on my '06 Ss and I'm questioning what oil is best/safe to use. I run Harley Screamin' Eagle synthetic 20w50 in the engine. The quart bottles says it's also safe for chaincases. I have a case of this stuff in the garage, so in keeping from having to take another trip to the dealership, is the Screamin' Eagle a good choice for Buell primaries?
Thanks in advance for any response!

Its only good if you want it to shift way smoother and be quieter than before.

I run it in my XB, I ran it in my Blast, its safe to use and I really like the way it acts.

You will never go wrong using H-D approved oil in your Buell. SYN3 is approved for use in the engine and primary of all Buell models. If you have it- use it.

There are better performing fully synthetic oils which you can use. H-D has only tested SYN3 (Sunoco), that is why it's the only "approved" oil. You will not void a warranty by using "non-approved" oil as long as it meets the H-D requirements: diesel engine oil API category CF-4, CG-4, CH-4, or CI-4; viscosity range: 20W50, 15W40, or 10W40.

Diesel oil categories are comparable to gasoline oil as follows: CF-4 = SF, CG-4 = SG, CH-4 = SH, and CI-4 = SL (API "C"=Commercial, "S"=Service). Viscosity ratings are the same.

If you and your bike like SYN3, then stick with it. If you would like a higher performance full synthetic oil, do some research and try another product.

My '08 XB12R has Amsoil Full Synthetic 20W50 in both engine and primary, and I'm very satisfied.

I run the HD Screamin Eagle Syn 3 in all of my newer bikes. Drop a quart in the primary and go!

Use Formula Plus...
Its a little heavier and has special additives for the clutch...

Either of them are going to work just fine. If you have a whole case use it until it's gone. Then switch if you like. I've run Syn 3 in both and haven't had any problems.

Formula + gives a significant improvement in shift quality, it is the ONLY oil I use.

I use Syn-3 with no problems. I would like to try Form + next go round. I don't put an entire quart in my primary. Just up to the diaphragm if I remember right. Always have a bit left over.

A full quart is always too much for me, I use my eyes too!
