Victory IS working in V twin sport bike, but the whole mystic of Mr Buell(innovator, dreamer, and his timeless design) don't know if I can't bear parting with my bike, but like everything else in life comes to an end, I just don't see it anytime soon. I'm sorry about your experience with HD and your stealership.

Thanks for all the posts. Just to let everyone know I was very polite with everyone at the HD dealer. And when I called the Buell Service Dept several times I was yes Sir yes Ma'am to all of them and then after the 2nd month went by, still nothing. I had my lawyer contact them. Buell then sent me a letter saying they will not cover all of the damage that the wheel bearing caused. I loved my Buell don't get me wrong. I took great care of it. If i knew there was a replacement part made for the bike (Wheel Bearing) trust me i would have had it in. I bought the bike in nov of 07 and if u see the Service Bulletin it says it came out in March or May of 2007? I was pissed because they sold me the bike with the old bearings on it. I also read some stories of other peoples bearings freezing up doing 80mph and them crashing. I just thank God that it wasn't my front bearing.

Reading everyone's post I wish I could keep both bikes now and find a new mechanic out side of HD.

Sorry to anyone if I offended you with my previous comments.

anyways thanks again everyone!!!

Be safe out there

Kokko

Yeah, if the dealer didn't know (or care) about changing the bearings before selling the bike, then they really don't belong in the Buell dealership network.

But I think you're happier with your new bike anyway, so all should be good.

I may be wrong, but it's my understanding that the dealer is under the obligation to correct any recall or service bulletin anytime the vehicle is in for service. Not long ago I took my truck for a routine service and when it was serviced the manager came and told that is going to take a little longer and explain that they're obligated by the manufacturer to correct any recalls that has not been performed in the vehicle, again, I'm not an expert, just my experience. So if you purchase the bike from a dealer they may be liable for their negligence.

Lighting, the issue is that it was not a recall. It was just a free upgrade program. It should of been done regardless, but its one of those things that you wouldn't know about unless you did research. The mailings for this was 5 years ago.

Lighting. As I've said before. Service bulletins tend to expire. Just like the headlight service bulletin that was issued a month back. It has a 2 year period. After that, tough luck. I can almost bet my bike some fool will chime in after it expires bitching and moaning about how the dealer won't do it for free.

Have I been disappointed by the treatment of Buellers at HD dealerships and their lack of knowledge about the bikes in the service departments?

YES

Have I enjoyed the he|| out of my 12R since I got it, found a good group of people online here at Badweb to help me and talk shop, and managed to find a dealership who does like and know Buells because of one of those Badwebbers?

YES!!!

Just 'cause the dealership ticks you off doesn't change how much fun the bikes are to ride -- and personally I hear a ton of young, torqued off kid in the OP's language -- and maybe some entitlement issues as well. I feel for you having a lame experience with the dealer but if you want to throw a tantrum and bash Buell don't let the door hit you on the way out...

Either way, ride safe.

Just to clarify, this was NOT a recall. This was a product program initiated by Buell to offer a better component, at no charge, to owners of the affected motorcycles. To quote:

The Buell Motorcycle Company is providing a no cost wheel
bearing upgrade to owners of some 2003 XB9R and XB9S
model motorcycles. The new wheel bearing provides
improved seal quality and grease retention capabilities. The
purpose of this revised bulletin is to provide you with updated
service information found on page 2.

If the bearing was the older style, and it allowed all of the grease to escape, causing a failure, there should have been some sort of visual indicator. Usually dealers have some pull with the motor company to help retain customers in these cases. Not always, but sometimes...

If the update was performed, then there really isn't much that the dealers or the motor company can do. The bike is no longer under warranty, and without an extended service plan, then the responsibility is on the owner of the vehicle. Sometimes bearings fail; it's just the nature of the vehicle.

Sorry to hear this has soured you on the brand, but if you think that this sort of thing won't happen to a Victory, or any other brand of vehicle, you're in for a rude awakening. Not just on component failure, but trying to get something covered on a vehicle no longer under warranty.

There are tons of Buellers in the SE Michigan area, including the infamous Spiderman.

As noted, the service bulliten for the wheel bearings is over 5 YEARS old. I'm not sure where you're getting this 'may or march of 2007' from.

I understand you're pissed, but legally they're right. It's the previous owner's fault he never had the bearing replaced when they offered, years ago, to replace them for free - which, I'll point out, they did not have to do in the first place. Yes, Biker Bob's is a shithole. No, they don't know anything about Buells. Yes, there were other places to take it or other avenues to pursue, including tapping a local Bueller for some help. In general, we're pretty good about providing that kind of stuff.

The wheel bearings on early XBs have been covered ad nauseum here and probably on every other Buell-related website. Virtually anyone familiar with the bikes could have told you about it.

You still haven't explained whether or not the wheel bearing actually failed and caused said damage - but even if it did, bearings are service items. They wear out and are on a schedule to be replaced just like virtually any moving part. If it failed far before its expected lifespan than perhaps you have some lever to be used, but despite your assurances that you were calm and collected at the dealership and on the phone, you're certainly ranting incoherently like a small child here, and it isn't helping you.

Please be specific about the damage to the bike. Are things simply scratched, or are they actually destroyed? If the bearing seized, did it cause a wreck?

If the wheel and swingarm are serviceable, I have a belt that I will donate to getting it back on the road.

If you're going to sell the bike I'd be very interested in it, and I'm right around the corner from you.

FWIW, while I was considering buying a Buell, I checked the links here (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/263547.html?1217999211) and noted what should have been done on the model I was interested in.

I made sure it was done before I bought, double-checked at the dealer. That's why I was surprised to see the headlights notice show up.

Anyway, I'm not perfect or usually this wise but the internet is a wonderful thing. Use it.

The dealership that I ran, before I quit working, sold Victory bikes (Indians and Kawasaki too) and all I can say about Victory factory support is GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ..go ahead and file a warranty claim...

Customer support was not in their vocabulary, it would seem. Dealers ended up looking like the "bad guys"....Maybe they've made improvements in the last 2-3 years, I hope so...One of the happiest days I can remember was the day we gave up our Victory dealership !!! So, Ejkokko--I wish you well with your Victory purchase.

My dad got not 1, but 2 letters in the mail recently from Harley. Both were for his 08 Screaming Eagle Electra Glide. The first one was for a recall. I forget the details but something related to the fuel pump. No biggy, the dealer will take care of it. Also, the other letter is similar to the wheel bearing upgrade here. Harley has some kit to upgrade some gaskets and valve guides. Again it’s no charge, but it clearly states that the program is good for only 2 years. I don't have the bulletin numbers handy, but I am sure they can be found on Google. Both letters clearly have their different points, with one being a full blown recall and the other is a limited time free upgrade.

Dude,

If you're really that unhappy, just send me the bike and title just to get rid of it. I'll take it off your hands and won't even charge you for it. Oh yeah, can you also send some new plastics, I don't care for the blue. Black would be nice.

That's alright, no need to thank me.

I had a horrid relationship with the dealer I bought my bike from (who shall remain nameless). They almost did ruin me forever on my initial Buell experience. I hold the owner of the dealership I was at totally responsible for my initial trouble... the buck has to stop somewhere.

Luckily, I found another dealership that would honor the factory warranty and they totally transformed my miserable experience into an excellent one (that dealer was Earl Smalls HD in Marietta, Georgia, btw).

I hate it that a bad dealership ran you off like that, but I can't say I blame you in the least.

I really hope that the dealer that you are purchasing your Victory from is a better outfit than the flake factory selling them in my town. They are also the KTM/Honda/Suzuki dealer, and boy, they are really good at making a first impression before you drop your cash, but once the deal is done, you effectively cease to exist. Two different guys I work with purchased brand new bikes from these clowns, and when the Gixxer and the big Honda cruiser developed unusual noises, both guys received the same response from their service department; "Just keep riding it, if it blows up, we'll put a new engine in it"(!!!!!!) For better or worse, a dealership can really make or break your impression of a product, that's a major reason I own a Buell, and a Saturn.

Heh, when you have someone like Spidey who is willing to wrench on your bike right down the road I can only say one thing -- you lucky @#$%, I wish I lived near him! Sheesh, some of us don't have the luxury of people like that and have to figure out this stuff ourselves.

I would be more unhappy if I didn't have Cityxslicker and his dealership, they have given me the beginnings of hope that not all HD dealer are @#$holes who hate Buells and their riders and don't know how to fix them. It took me looking around and asking some questions but four dealers later I found one that will do, at least for warranty work.

Honestly, blaming Buell for the dealers is a bit like blaming all of us for the 1%ers out there -- that's just apples and oranges (yes, yes, Buell could, and should, do more -- but @#$% dealers have always been around and WILL always be around).
