Stot, They're estimating both... I've told them I don't want to report to insurance... You don't think that's holding them up do you? |

Shouldnt do, they dont care who pays at the end of the day. Maybe the 'spray guy' isnt in all the time or maybe they just cant be 'arrised. If you booked a time for them to look at it and gone out of your way to take it there they should have looked at it and been able to tell you what they were gonna do by at most the next day if not that day IMHO. Thats what booking is for innit? Any better dealers in your area? Cya Stot |

Stot, When I tried to book a time to bring it in they simply told me to drop it off... They didn't really seem to think I needed to schedule the service. Do you think, sometimes, that they may cater to the H-D crowd a little more and give us the shaft? i dunno... |

First service is a good couple of hours job I believe so its gotta be added to a workmans schedule someplace. Id see if I can find a nearby dealer with a good Reputation with Buells. Cya Stot |

UPDATE... Just got off the phone with the dealer and they said I was the next in line for "damage adjustment." They said there adjuster has been really busy and that I could call back on Monday. I told them I'm more concerned with getting the bike running than with the frame damage. Stot, I'm not sure that they're going to perform the full "first" service on my bike as it only has 640 miles... If they don't I'm not so sure I'll take it back to them. Maybe I should just buy a shop manual and do my own service work???

Here in the UK you need the stamps to claim warranty work, dunno about over there as you have many more independants than us. So it depends how much you want to keep the warranty. Certain things have to be done by a dealer or at least someone with a Scanalyser though. First service is free from the dealer you bought from here, I would assume its the same there? After that its up to you. Gluck Stot |

UPDATE... The dealer finally had a technician check the bike for the first time yesterday. He found a loose sparkplug wire. They still plan to do more diagnostics and get back with me later. I can see an intermittent "no-connect" from distributor to sparkplug causing the backfiring, but it doesn't seem to explain why the bike wouldn't idle without giving it a little throttle. The bike didn't backfire at rpms around normal idle, but it wouldn't idle... Weird. I asked them if they'll still service the bike under warranty now that it has been dropped. They basically replied no. I then asked them to go ahead and come up with a ballpark estimate for what it would cost to repair the frame damage, thinking that if I get the frame fixed then they'd be able to do warranty work on it. I called them again today and they didn't have an estimate for me. Instead they told me that they'd feel safe riding the bike without fixing the damage. Does this seem like double talk to you guys? They won't do warranty work on the bike because it's been dropped but they turn around and tell me that they feel it's safe to ride. What to do? |

What to do? Find a new service shop... Talk to H-D... Why would a warranty be voided for dropping the bike? I can understand if they won't fix the frame under warranty but if I was running a shop and found something that I could convince myself MIGHT not have been caused by the crash I would fix it... I guess I just don't understand some people. |

Call Buell Customer Service and ask them what your options are. Sounds like complete BS to me. I believe that their number is listed in the For the Factory topic and in the "Links" topic. |

I don't think they can deny you warranty coverage unless they can prove that the crash damaged the part that is not working properly. For example, if you crash and bend your handlebar, the bent handlebar is not covered by the warranty. If then, after several hundred miles, the ECM dies, the ECM should be covered under warranty since it wasn't damaged in the crash. |

What was the solution? |

Buellicious, They replaced some wiring harnesses and the ignition coil. They said some of the insulation had rubbed off the wires causing an intermittent short. |
